A comment from Ars:
"From a business point of view, it means that manufacturers could make, for instance, one motherboard and then offer a few different configurations just by using different size memory modules.
It also means that warranty repairs for failed memory would involve replacing just a memory module, instead of an entire motherboard, which makes turnaround time faster and parts cost lower.
Basically: the reasons that replaceable memory modules were good to have in the first place."

YUKI93, 08 Nov 2024For the time being, yes. But with the release of CAMM2 memo... moreAs long as company wants to adopt it. Companies already gain so much by soldering their RAM, doubt that most company wants to go back to this "upgradeability" route. Well, those upgrade-friendly company like Framework is an exception, of course.

Splitting windows to arm for all future products would have to be a very slow trickle. Apple was able to get away with it because their userbase upgrades hardware very frequent since their customers are mostly video editors that have to have best hardware at all costs to maximize profits.

Microsoft could have followed Apple's footsteps by forcing everyone to go ARM64 only. But then again, Microsoft realized how important x86 still is, especially for legacy softwares.

hi, 07 Nov 2024nope in Linux just compile Hmm, I'm not an expert/programmer, but i remember ps3 emulator for Windows. Ps3 was based on risk architecture and in order to play games under windows, quite powerful PC was needed. And that got loaded almost at max.. so emulation might come at quite a cost... unless things are changed now, after all I'm speaking of distant past...

ARM is RISC [reduced instruction set], Intel/AMD are CISC [complete instruction set]. This why the need for an emulator as arm socs need the rest of the instruction set to be provided through software whereas x86 is all on the cpu. I prefer a CISC system so will stick with AMD. I would also dump 11 and put linux on it. No built in spyware.
