Most androids look like iPhone nowadays. The only difference is the camera island. Meh

You guys are getting a bit slow, others have already comprehensively compared these and the x200 series

Bodygard, 07 Nov 2024"For example, 6x zoom is just the start – an AI super-... more2x zoom is very close to a perfect "normal" focal length (it's actually around 42-43mm) which makes for photos that feel very natural as opposed to wide-angle or telephoto (both of which doesn't show the scene in a natural way "as seen by human vision").

Also for close-ups it's usually much better than the 23-24mm (1x) camera of smartphones these days. Of course if you also have a 3x camera with good close-up possibilities, that camera will often be better for close-ups.

Having a sharp 2x camera is worth more than most non-photography people realize. Sometimes 3x is just too tight and 1x is too wide.

Few smartphones make really good 2x photos though. My Nothing Phone (1) offer 2x photos that look essentially like upscaled 1x photo crops (= "digital zoom"). Meanwhile on my last phone S23 Ultra the 2x mode (enabled through Samsung app "Camera Assistant") gave me 2x photos that looked like from a separate native 2x camera (in good light of course). The S23 was shooting at ISO 10 to keep noise down but still had a good amount of noise but also impressive details. Sadly the large Samsung main CMOS sensor had terrible colour accuracy. It looked like a joke to be fair.

Vivo X100 Ultra impressed me at 2x. Also Xperia 1 VI looked pretty good at 2x (with much better colours than S23).

IpsDisplay, 07 Nov 2024Every time flagship photos get posted it's either one ... moreNicely noticed, still it's true! 🫣

If i dare say, "oil painting" is called "overprocessed" in more technical terms.

Every time flagship photos get posted it's either one of two criticisms

            Oil Painting

            Over sharpening

            Nothing in between 😂

Anonymous, 07 Nov 2024Marisilicon does not exist anymore Vivo have the V3 chip still and if I'm not mistaken that's the isp baked into the 9400

Unless that is only for the Vivo x200 line and I misunderstood

                  Reason they are very bright.

Mine is 1/1 56" too. In bright days I use 1/1500s.

Probably rather common comment, but honestly:

There's certainly decent potential of all of the cameras seen in these examples. But it's seen through severe sharpening and excessive overprocessing.

The details and dynamic range are however rather neat.

Back in days people used to shoot (35mm) film, and those photos were remarkable in their own manner.

Im a bit dissapointed. I mean I thaught Oppo will be able to trade blows with Vivo x200 pro in terms of telephoto performance.

Gnusmas, 07 Nov 2024Mediatek SoC = heavy sharping in photos, no buyI don't think this is even mediatek's isp...

doesnt matter.........its too ugly to be used as a flagship.....i hate oppo for ruining the design after X6 series........imagine paying near 850$ for X8 pro and it looks like kitchen sink holes on its back

Despite the downgraded camera hardware on the find x8 (at least the main sensor anyway) I think the actual camera performance is generally really good. Tried it out in a few different stores with various lighting. It's very well optimized and the video quality was really good. My only criticism would be that the photos and video are sharpened a bit too much. It's a completely different approach to the find x8 pro and Oneplus 13 which I tried beside it. Both of those go very light on the sharpening.

There is something off with small details. The grass in the first picture, the road, and trees in the second, and some of the other things in the next pictures have exactly the same pattern. Small details are made up when there is a very small and detailed texture.

Almost all the images have crazy amounts of sharpening applied to them — to the point where the grass has almost zero detail to it even at the forefront of the image where it is closest and thus the least amount of zooming in is required to analyse the detail — and most images seem to be overexposed severely. There is also some chromatic abberation going on, even if subtle.

"For example, 6x zoom is just the start – an AI super-resolution algorithm can push things up to 120x zoom."

Why did you tested the 2X zoom anyway? It's useless because you can just take 3 steps forward and take a pic with no zoom so? The usefulness of having big zoom is precisely using your phone as binoculars to see signs, images, info that's very far from you without having to go there (maybe you just can't because it's in a inaccessible place or you just don't want to).
Test the zoom capabilities properly in the full review: 3X, 10X, 30X and 120X max zoom.
