What's the point in getting new updates when it's causing my phone overheat and laggy. Nope, I will stay with anything coming from factory.

Some devices promise update based on the number of major OS releases, changing the release cycles might reduce the support period... read the upgrade policy carefully since number of releases will not equal to number of years :D

they're giving more updates to devices to make the device obsolete sooner as now we've more powerful hardware. (claimed by devices that you didn't updated their os).
this cycle will make them obsolete sooner but also buggy and unusable at times within 1st year of device. (frequent updates, developer preview, beta - will reveal more security loopholes to developers that can be use for unethical data collection)

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2024wifi 6 doesn't use 6ghz...Thanks for the correction.
But my point still stands, we don't have Wifi 6e or 7 due to Government Regulations.
Even when Pixel 9 series was released, it was a hot topic.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2024You're right, I don't know why arnabJ didn't... moreI did read it and then only I replied. It seems you didn't read my comment.
They replied to an article clearly mentioning that Android 16 is releasing earlier to change the annual release cycle from 4th Quater to the 2nd. A comment on that saying/asking Newer versions will be released every 6 months isn't accurate or is it now?
Sure new devices are being released every quarter. Vivo is releasing 3 generations of V series in a single year (9 months to be more precise) but that has nothing to do with this article.

AnonD-1177677, 20 Nov 2024It is not with just this it is nowadays with everything in ... moreYour comparison of Hardware releases with an earlier release of a software version to accommodate for a new annual cycle isn't justified. It was clearly mentioned the earlier release is to change the annual cycle going forward.
On the other hand,
New tech is expensive and companies need to gatekeep certain features to ask for premium price.
High end laptops do have thunderbolt 4 ports in Intel and Apple based devices. Amd Ryzen based devices don't have support for thunderbolt 4 (to the best of my knowledge).
Same way for WiFi 7.
Then there's regulations, in India we don't even have WiFi 6 as Indian Government has not allowed use of 6Ghz band. We are stuck with WiFi 5.
