Anna, 21 Nov 2024We are towards the end of 2024 now. 4/6 GB RAM and just 2 m... moreThat would be awesome if we would actually get 2 upgrades with a phone.
Think of when you go to the shop where you buy the phone after a year to get your first upgrade that will give you better chip or camera on it and then do it after 2 years to go for the upgrade as the second one and you dont need to pay a cent for it.
But well OS have updates. Upgrade means hardware improvement. There are different words for a reason for different things.

Most of my friends look for separate memory card slot & high dpi display...you know to keep thier PRECIOUS files (wink, wink) & watch in the night. Also use two sims, one for family and one fór job. Any phone without these are not going to sell in great numbers.

Watched a review of this phone - by TechSpurt - looks kind of like a neat idea but it makes zero sense that a phone that is 'easily repaired' gets 2 OS updates. Why would I replace the battery in a phone at year 4 if it can't be updated?
HMD is usually overpriced - this isn't, despite its anemic processor- but the lack of OS update defeats the purpose of the product. Really, really dumb.

We are towards the end of 2024 now. 4/6 GB RAM and just 2 major OS upgrades! 8 GB RAM and 4/5 years of major OS upgrades should be minimum now. Is HMD Global still leaving in 2020? It's their usual practice to dump their e-waste 2-3 months later than the global launch.

I like this move from HMD over the past year or so, but HMD needs to understand AT LEAST providing recovery files to users is also important. They can keep their bootloader locked if it matters so much to them, but SENDING YOUR PHONE TO A SERVICE CENTER is not a valid response to a bootloop. The solution is providing the consumers with recovery images, like most successful manufacturers do.
Isn't this still a part of the Right to Repair mission? Providing proper documentation and TOOLS? I'd love for iFixit to voice this to HMD.
