Nothing wrong with installment too, unless the installment or iphone purchase was being done by parents who couldn't really afford it's price because their children asked them to. Or the buyer is reduced to eating noodles for the following months.

My wording didn't hint at this properly though. I suspect we won't see them become widely used until metalenses start getting used, and that's assuming that researchers will have found a way to use metalenses for zoom lenses by then.

That is, of course, unless variable telephoto... moreThe only way a variable telephoto could work without absurdly fattening up the phone would be to use some kind of high light sensitivity camera sensor at the end that would somewhat mitigate it's small size. My current Xperia 1 iii has a variable zoom camera thats just 1/2.9" and it struggles in low light. It's just a matter of time till tech catch up with variable teles. In apple's case such tech would only go for the Pro models

I mean they're already claiming 2x "optical" zoom on the 48MP sensor. So this will be their trajectory for the non pro iPhones.

                              This is a mediocre lens on stilts whose resolution, like the ultrawide, is nowhere near the good standard of the main 24mm lens. You pay a massive premium for add-on lenses to Apple and receive disappointment back in spades. In view of the huge number of secondhand, barely used (it is only 2 months since launch) 16 series phones for sale online, it would appear buyers agree with me here, because the Ultrawide 14mm lens is not sharp all the way across at all, and it is an uprezzed imager on the same pooky little sensor its iPhone 15 predecessor had- bet it is the same 12Mp sensor with built-in interpolation. And as elsewhere the Ultrawide lens has NO image stabilization at all. As to the periscope lens, periscopes are wonkier, less stable than a lens placed along the central vertical axis of the phone's body. Speaking of which, will next year's design be the total disaster predicted with three lenses in a row along one end of the phone making it impossible to make horizointal shots at all, as, of course, your fingers will cover a lens or two if they are where mockups suggest they will be....

                                      Everybody already knows the regular iPhone 17 will get Pro Motion. This has been known for years, even before the iPhone 14 release as part of Apple’s roadmap.
