Anonymous, 25 Nov 2024Huawei: Yes, your camera is on 24/7 Who are we? Come one, ... moreIt's a Mate device so if it has 3D depth sensing, it's unlikely to use the camera.

Anton .el PAPI., 25 Nov 2024of those functions that you will use only once and never us... moreIf it grabs the file (and not, say a screenshot) I'd use it non-stop for moving files between phone and laptop and vice-versa.
However, gestures need to be identified quickly and reliably and the device communication side and transfer needs to be fast.
Nearlink should be great for that.

Apple has a similar gesture to copy-paste stuff, I'm not sure it works for file sharing too. In this case, it's restricted to devices using the same iCloud account. I wonder if Huawei will add similar limitations, but I hope it does. Apple learned this lesson the hard way with guys sending unsolicited photos of their "parts" via AirDrop in public places.

Unbelievable a magic from a Harry Potter school of magic going global. Instead of magic wands we will have our phones.

Shui8, 25 Nov 2024For sure I'm missing a lot the take screenshot hand ge... moreThe sending device probably broadcasts a signal to nearby devices that it's going to send a file. The signal will need to include some kind of ID. When the receiving device accepts the transfer, it'll probably broadcast a signal that includes some kind of ID to nearby devices to let the sending device know that it's ready to accept the file.

For sure I'm missing a lot the take screenshot hand gesture on my older Huawei P40. Working everytime + convenient + practicality.
But throw files to other devices? I mean how? Any logical explanation on how it knows the same files it received? 🤌🏻

This would be so cool if it works properly. It probably uses the same tech a face scanner would use to scan your hand and detect it on nearby devices.
They show it going to different people's devices as well so curious how that works.
