Darth Caesium, 26 Nov 2024Nice. Even the Brazilians are finally standing up against t... morePlease wake up from your dream, because that's still happening

"The decision comes after Mercado Libre, an online merchant, filed a complaint back in 2022 against Apple for anti-competitive practices."

For instance, Mercado Libre is complaining about Apple and their fees, but they sure didn't hold back when they recently asked for taxes on stuff under 50$ to be applied to anything that comes in into Brazil, affecting all users that bought stuff from AliExpress or other places. And it's not the only company that supported and pushed that bill, which got approved swiftly. That tax applies even for stuff that Brazil doesn't even have local manufacturing for, like electronics. And the excuse was that it was for "protecting local jobs" as if any local company worth their salt treats or pays their employees appropriately.

Nice. Even the Brazilians are finally standing up against tech monopolies. I say this because Brazil 100 years ago literally used to have two parties owned by monopolies, with one owned by the coffee monopoly company and the other by the milk monopoly company, and they literally had an agreement that whichever party wasn't currently in power would get into government in the next election.
