Cool I don’t like folds apple or android

VicsanIdiot, 12 Dec 2024again, im not sure how you can say apple is going to add ma... moreWe don't know if Apple WILL release a foldable phone at all! If they can't make it reliable, they won't release it.

Just because Apple are using Samsung OLED panels for their flagships doesn't mean they always use Samsung OLED displays. In the same way they are mostly using Sony CMOS camera sensors for their flagship phones, doesn't mean they always will.

But it won't depend on the actual OLED display for Apple to make a reliable foldable. It's the rest of the foldable system that needs an overhaul or even re-invention to make it more durable and reliable.

I've never had any of my Samsung phones ever needed a repair of any kind since 2015 when I got my first (S4 mini). That's why I didn't want to buy a phone that was almost guaranteed to need a repair within 2 years.

notice how my original post didnt call foldables strictly repair bait, just that the main failure point is going to be supplied by the brands we already have in the market.....

            Waiting for Hinge Gate

VicsanIdiot, 11 Dec 2024the hinges dont fail, the screens do and hey, theyre getti... moreI'm sure there are foldables that doesn't use Samsung screens. All foldables fail everywhere as far as I can tell. It's not the screen itself that seem to be the main problem. There are numerous problems of which of course the largely unprotected screen is one of the weak points.
But saying foldables are unrealiable because of Samsung OLED screens seems to be a joke frankly.

Apple has wisely waited until a reliable foldable device can be released. Android users are more likely to accept being beta testers for new exciting hardware.
So when Apple eventually releases their first foldable, they have Android users to thank for beta testing foldable devices.

Weight of devices are getting lower but unreliability remains high it seems. Of course none of the involved companies would ever dream of releasing statistics of how many devices had to be repaired from each series. However for us still waiting for reliable foldables, it would maybe help if numbers were getting better. So for Fold2 maybe 45% had to be repaired and with Fold5 they managed to lower it to 30%. Those numbers would help us customers decide when is the right moment to try this new technology.
Getting our info from Reddit or something, we will never want to try foldables frankly. So if numbers are getting better, they should start sharing them soon I think. Before foldables dies out like a failed experiment. It might happen.

I also can't wait for my overpriced brick

Now with double the shatter chance!

VicsanIdiot, 11 Dec 2024the hinges dont fail, the screens do and hey, theyre getti... moreThat's not entirely true.

What we've found on reddit(if that matters) is the cables that run between the panels causes many of the failures. It either burns, breaks or dislodges. Broken or dislodged cables rub against the back of the screen and causes the black lines. This may also cause the hinge to misalign as well as prevent the phone from folding flat. Burned cables causes the inner screen to shut off during use. That happened to my Z4 after experiencing excessive heat from the One UI 6.1 update. Obviously the screens are more delicate than the normal outer screen, but there is still no proof they are just breaking on their own from use or weather.

I think that is also the case for 1+ and Google. I can't speak to Huawei because they scrub the internet of anything negative. What is interesting is fold owners in China refer to the screen damage as leaking. Elswhere, it is breaking or cracking. Not sure if it is the same thing.

Honestly, I dont know if this "hinge" would be used on a foldable device. Seems to me more useful for a robotic arm or something like that.

There are rumors they want to get into the Smart Home Market

In general, products with more moving parts are less durable than products with less moving parts. Also, softer materials are less durable than harder materials, but softer materials are more flexible. It's just how things are. No company in the universe can change the laws of physics.

Demonicale, 11 Dec 2024A fat oversized foldable you mean?, maybe you meant Honor?.They can call to who ever brand that makes foldables or flips. As Apple dont have one on their own. They just wait till market have work most of the bugs out and then sell the same thing with double the price under their Apple brand and call it the best while millions of cheeps run with the banner on their hand with the picture of futurama character holding money up and with text take my money

It'll be called the infinite hinge

So.... They patented the Microsoft Surface Book? Good for them. Classic Apple.

Hinge looks really bulky so would be hard to hide in a phone. Probably will be added to an ipad/mac book with a foldable screen, if it is for a foldable at all
