You aren't just sending a text out into the either, its like a phone call. Maybe you didn't know this but when you get into a car accident your Apple watch and iPhone automatically contact emergency services for you. If you have no signal your phone, and now watch, can switch to satellite to contact emergency services. Also works for if you have a hard fall it will all emergency services for you, great for motorcycle riders who are pretty much guaranteed to get knocked out in a crash or break limbs.

I have both the Ultra from Samsung and Apple. If the Samsung is OK, the Apple is so better, but the phone from Samsung are way better than the Apple one, where the IOS suck big time for it's lack of application and other goodies

Maybe then it will be worth the premium. My Galaxy Watch Ultra is expensive and can't do everything the Apple Watch Ultra does, that being said those things are very niche, like diving. At the moment a GWU can be had for a pretty good price but the AWU is still hella overpriced. Funnily enough I heavily prefer the GWU styling nowadays, it looks way better in person than in the images, while the AWU still looks like a goofy toy

Satellite messaging is a wasteful feature if you already have LTE in your Watch. Not a compelling feature for the most. I have Ultra 2 LTE 49mm which is good enough for another 6-7 years(I used Samsung Gear S3 for almost 8 years my only smart watch then) along with Samsung Galaxy Ultra Watch. I shall only think about upgrading after 6-7 years only if my watches not working or something else like proper BP and BG monitoring is available in watches. Otherwise, not planning for any upgrade! I am satisfied with both Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch Ultra!

I find it ugly, I like Garmin more, but for most it is the other way around.
Also it does last more than a day, google that next time before you make a comment.

And even if do such activities in full wild most of the time in a year, at worst you would need this "zero to once a year" (I know people that do such things for a living in remote areas)
And a watch makes more sense then, you don't want too much unnecessary equipment then.
That's the common sense part in my opinion (and probably same for the other commenter)

I can get 3 x Series 9 and still have some money left over. For most, the standard Apple Watch or even the previous gen Watch is a much better buy than the Ultra.
I’m really happy with my Series 9. It was a worthy upgrade over the SE 1st Gen after 4 years. I get about 36-48 hours of battery with AOD on and Raise To Wake turned off, along with a few other minor settings tweaks. The battery life varies according to my activity. On days I’m more active, it’s closer to 36 hours.

Of course anybody with common sense knows this is meants for specific groups of people, most people living in urban areas will never need this.
Surprised Garmin never came up with this.
