MediaTek set to introduce new Dimensity chips on December 23

That's enough if not even deliberately aimed at. In a single CPU you will get only 5~7% but in multicore it will be 25~30%. It's same N4 second gen TSMC so price won't be much higher (15~20%) either tho it whose mature and year ago.

      A little sad about the GPU, its upgrade is much smaller than I expected, I estimate the increase will be 20%, while from Dimensity 8200 to 8300 it was almost 80%

        Anonymous, 14 hours agoVery strange Immortalis G720 should have at least 10 cores.... moreNo and it's optional on G720 and included in Immortalis. It's same cluster but minimum number of clusters for it to have Immortalis branding is as stated. According to ARM it's 15% performance over G715 and up to 40% reduction in memory bandwidth requirement with 5~10% size increase (without/with RT cores). They don't use costume stuff at least not in a sane manner but they combine stuff in the stranger manner bricking ARM intended compatibility model. It's also not how many you have but how fast they work and how they are feed. And those in 8300 and 8400 work very fast (1.4/1.3 GHz) and are paird with fast 4x16 RAM. As memory bandwidth is a bottleneck and their compressed textures not a thing to find in games expection is that the real life performance will be significantly better than projected (20~25%).

          He states the 8400 will use Arm A725 cortex 4nm fabrication.
          The clock speed I accept can be underclocked if that were the only issue

            This looks great and all but i hope this isn't too expensive/scarcely used. Higher end Dimensity Chips like the 8300 and the 9300 are great but end up not being used much and the HORRIBLE middle tier midrange chips (which are on par with EXYNOS like the Galaxy A55 for example is far superior to the closest competitors in terms of CPU although the GPU is slightly slower). Like if Samsung has better value than you WITH THEIR OWN CHIPS then something is definitely wrong.

            I really hope Mediatek makes the midrange-budget lineup great again, they're trying to put up a fight with the snapdragon 7+ series chips but that doesn't matter cus the chip's so expensive it's better to just get some other phone most of the time. Or brands just ditch em.

                Cortex A725 was announced by Arm in may 2024.
                Mali/Immortalis G720 was announced in may 2023.

                Google on Tensor G4 uses one year older X4, A720 and A520 and one year older Mali G715.

                It's true Mediatek rebrands/renames some chips (lower end ones), but last year, 9300, 8300 and 7300 were new soc and this year 9400 and 8400 are new ones too.

                        So the Mediatek D8400 debuts the Cortex A725 cores which were not present in the Flagship D9400. I wonder how powerful and efficient this chipset is, I may be eyeing phones equipped with this next year

                          Very strange Immortalis G720 should have at least 10 cores.
                          According to Arm official website, up to 9 cores, it's Mali G720 and there's no ray-tracing acceleration.

                          (Exemple : Tensor G4 uses Mali G715mp7, Dimensity 9200 uses Immortalis G715mp11)

                          Did Mediatek get some special custom configuration from Arm ? 7 cores and ray-tracing acceleration ?
