20 December 2024
We've seen a lot of concepts so far, but this one is reportedly going into production.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2024Another tech sony was first to work with ( tech got sold to... moreFun fact, Sony was the first comay to commercially sell OLED products, the world's first OLED TV, and VGA monitor, was a Sony. They're were slow, but committed to OLED whilst the likes of Samsung went with LED, and Panasonic with rear-projection. Though Sony being Sony, they never did a good job with marketing and R&D..

People are buying the Apple Vision Pro btw.

BTW, there is a nice gif of the actual movement

                cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24464000/lenovo.gif

It seems to be motorised with a (slow) motor.

And then this can be extended vertical to 'normal' laptop 16:9 or even 4:3

More vertical space will be useful for those who code or work with large spreadsheets. It's a work laptop.

JoXim, 20 Dec 2024Great, but why vertical? Horizontal incorporation would... moreWell for the obvious reason that no one would want a roll at one side of the screen.

This way the roll can be placed in the lower part of the laptop.

Another aspect is that the open and close could be a simpler movement flipping up and extending in one go, and push back in&down

maybe some few need this thing? LOL

Abo King, 20 Dec 2024Oke... But, seriously, Lenovo, what's the point? ... moreThere's people that want innovation and there's people that complain about innovation. It's not like this is going to replace the Lenovo Yoga lineup. calm down. Not like you're forced to buy it among the MANY choices of other laptops from Lenovo themselves.

Better even; bring back a laptop with the good old, ancient i may say, 4:3 ratio (hello thinkpad..) and let it slide out to the SIDE to watch movies etc.

Vertical screens like this new lenovo though, are complete niches, but hey thats probably the ideal testing ground and when things go south, no worries as they sold only several.. But, mark my words: sliding out horizontally will be the real deal.

I could see it being useful for creators who work in landscape a lot. Looks too fragile to be in a portable device though.

                                Oke...

But, seriously, Lenovo, what's the point?

Unless you're making a vertical oriented tablet that can be rolled out horizontally to convert it into a larger horizontal laptop with a wireless physical keyboard without that touchpad crap, then you're only producing useless garbage.

Just remember, people nowaday tend to spend money on well functioning products, and they no longer waste thousands of dollar purchasing gimmick.

Same way with UDC patented in 2012.

Fragile plastic screens are less of a disadvantage on a device without a touchscreen, like I would guess this one is but don’t know, compared to touch screens like foldable phones. It will still scratch but way less because it’s not constantly touched. It’s also good that this leaves the keyboard alone, unlike things like screens above the keyboard, which push the keyboard down, or those that replace the keyboard for a second screen.

                                        Great, but why vertical?
Horizontal incorporation would've been much better.
