A great selection of hardware, but regional limitations disrupted vivo's 2024.

Vivo is all winner in my book. They did a really good job. Bringing stereo speakers and IP68 to the V series, along with Zeiss to the non Pro model, were great for consumers. And sorry, but iqoo is winner as well. Iqoo brand puts SoC as priority, similar to Poco. Having a bit lesser camera is perfectly acceptable.

One thing Vivo should improve is Funtouch OS. It’s decent, but it could be better. The few AI features in version 15 helps, but it leaves you wanting more.

David 040882, 31 Dec 2024The iQOO 12 was just as competitively priced last year. And... morethey could've kept the cameras but the hardware wouldn't have improved much. I'd much rather have a better overall phone with mid cameras than a mid phone with moderately good cams. Due to the lack of Vivo's dedicated ISP, the photos aren't gonna be THAT great and Vivo ain't focusing too much on the processing either. Unless you exclusively shoot RAWs, the better camera isn't that great. Better to go for a Oneplus 13, the software and hardware complement each other better.

And it still managed to deliver a better camera setup. So again, I agree that it's a bit of a stretch to call the iQOO 13 a loser just because of its downgraded cameras, but they could've easily kept the same rear cameras hardware from the iQOO 12.

David 040882, 31 Dec 2024Doesn't justify crap. A downgrade is a downgrade and i... morehave you seen the price? do you want them to give everything at this price or something because that's just not feasible. I'm surprised that they didn't put ads or anything because the price is super competitive. If you really want cameras, go for the OP 13, as simple as that. I don't really get why the two phones need to have the same cameras or anything, there's more choice for people who value different things. The IQOO 13 is essentially the Pro model without the cameras of last year. The IQOO 12 was a pleasant surprise but this phone hones in on the gaming credentials and makes sure it delivers, i respect that. A focused product. Not really for everyone.

A HUGE downgrade in terms of cameras, yes, i won't buy it cus i really need cameras but if i ever were a guy who just used his phone for media consumption then the IQOO 13 is just an exceptional value proposition. This is basically like what Oneplus phones were a few years ago. If you want an all rounder, go for the V series, if you want strictly performance, go for the IQOO.

Calling the X200 a winner and the IQOO 13 a loser makes this list feel a little out of touch. Yeah the IQOO 13 is a downgrade but it essentially is the Pro variant without the camera, that's a huge update. Battery is bigger, display is far better, performance is one of the best for an 8 Elite phone, great gaming features and also an updated selfie cam, albeit not well optimized lol. The best part is that the price globally is the best/one of the lowest if not the lowest for an 8 Elite phone, the Realme GT7 Pro dropped the ball so if having a better telephoto makes the phone cost like a Oneplus 13, it's a no go. The IQOO 13 is the perfect middle ground between something like the Oneplus 13R/Poco F Pro phone. The advantage being a genuinely reliable phone (apart from cameras) in terms of software, performance and battery, the latter of which can't be said about Xiaomi phones lmao

The X200 is priced only slightly lower than the Oneplus 13 yet it feels like a huge downgrade compared to it. I don't think it's a win in any way whatsoever. Worse main cam than the OP 13, smaller battery, slower charging speed, USB 2.0, optical scanner, perhaps worse display and most definitely a worse vibration motor. A no brainer upgrade if the OP 13 is ~100 dollars within the price of the X200.

justasmile, 31 Dec 2024Lame take on the IQOO 13. It's called balancing my ... moreAnd you going to ignore the smaller main camera sensor and narrower aperture? Not only that, but the periscope of the iQOO 12 could also focus up close, aside from offering a longer optical zoom. It's simple, they could've kept the same camera hardware as on the iQOO 12 at least. But fair, calling the iQOO 13 a loser just because of that, while the rest of the package brings plenty of upgrades is a bit of a stretch

Lame take on the IQOO 13.

It's called balancing my guy. How important can a periscope be for such a phone?Even that can still do 120x zoom. Are we gonna ignore the Snapdragon 8 Elite upgrade, USB upgrade, selfie camera upgrade, battery life upgrade?

                    >A phone should improve on its predecessor's display, performance, battery life, and camera quality - the iQOO 13 skips that last part.

It‘s normal for Chinese phones to upgrade one part then downgrade another part. Only the non-Chinese like Samsung, Apple, Google, Sony etc. usually only do upgrades and not downgrades. Of course because they did not downgrade anything, the upgrades will also seem smaller, whereas with the Chinese strategy, those free up some budget for example by downgrading the camera which can be used on a bigger upgrade for the display or the chip.

Personal opinion, but I think the Iqoo 13 is unfairly graded. The phone is rated highly in your very own review!
But I guess there had to be a loser part for the article
