10x on S23 Ultra was bad in term of both size and definition
Samsung's choice to switch to X5 with a better sensor was good...
Keeping the crappy X3 wasn't...
On Find X8 Pro, Oppo put a 1/1.95" on it's X3...it's far more consistent.

I'm actually more excited for the OnePlus 13. I think OnePlus will be the top brand this year especially if the OnePlus Open 2 comes out. I have heard Samsung isn't going to produce as many of the upcoming Fold 7 due to Fold 6 low sales.

That 3x telephoto lens sensor is miserably smaller sensor of 12MP "1/3.52" something. A telephoto sensor these days should have a minimum of a half inch sensor.

Instead of improving the 3x, they made it cheaper for themselves and substituted 2 sensors for a 5x one and called it a day, said on marketing material that it was still very good at 10x, and fools like you ate it like honey.
I got a Samsung phone, so I'm definitely no hater. But Samsung shenanigans got the worse out of me sometimes, so you can blame them.
I had a 600€ budget for a phone and bought an S23, it was a great phone for the price, but if I had a 1200€ one, I would go for a Vivo X100 Ultra and get the spare money to buy myself something else nice, instead of buying the same Ultra phone Samsung has been selling for the last 5 years...

I bet if they could somehow sell a 1/2" 500MP sensor in the Ultra without the picture quality being affected too much, they would do it and it would sell like hot potatoes. People are brainless nowadays.
But as of now, it's already hard enough to make 200MP have decent quality. And to make 1/1.31" compete with 1".
But marketing keeps getting that 💩 sold, gotta give them my props!

As long as the sales don't decline, they will keep selling people the exact same phone since the last 5 years... In fact, the 10x zoom was really their best camera phone, then they downgraded and never came back.

Aside from that this is beyond depressing, samsung used to produce the very best phones without any compromises, but this year the only real innovation seems to be the snapdragon elite and thats not even a samsung merit.
Chinesse phones are growing so fast in camera hardware, software deppartment and battery technology. Even iphones with similar camera sensors outclasses samsung pictures thanks to much better image processing. This year is the worst for samsung flagships that I can remember

vik457, 30 Dec 2024I don't think it's just that, juan bagnell compar... moreagain, due to the high density of pixels, each pixel is 0.6 micron sized on the HP2 whereas the OV50H has comparatively HUGE 1.2 micron ones. Besides, omnivision's OV50H is genuinely good and has a really low noise floor surprisingly and perhaps has the best noise handling. I was truly surprised when i saw that video. Besides, we all know Samsung doesn't make the highest quality sensors lol
Anyways that's only my theory, im not a huge camera nerd so i wouldn't know much.

High res should only be used for zoom cams as those could do with some cropping.

You can take good 6x, 7x, and 8x pictures. With the 10 MP 10x telephoto camera, you can only take good 10x pictures. If you don't understand how this is a significant upgrade, it's your problem.
