Motorola AURA to sell on a burn-after-using basis

04 Nov, 2008
Some leaked information suggested that the Motorola AURA will be sold along with a contract that forbids the second hand reselling of the highly expensive device. In an attempt to preserve the exclusiveness...

hmm...how about inventing a phone that someone would buy. This is pretty crazy especially at $2000 US, even if you had the money to afford it, i would rather actually buy a good phone and maybe an expensive watch, still having money left over. sorry motorola, but definitely not anything original or practical :(

only a very few people will buy the phone. i don't think it is a good move. lower the price to max $700 then u an expect more buyers.

Motorola needs to get a life...they think they are so cool but they'll find out how big of losers they are when nobody buys their phone.

I think its not such a bad idea. It ensures that the AURA wont become a cheapened phone in future years and it will keep it exclusive.

As a die-hard Moto fan, I really doubt the effectiveness of this move by Moto, as I visited the Moto's website of its (probably) 2nd largest market...mainland China, which already features the Aura on its homepage.

Sadly (if not shamefully) speaking, the move will likely have ZERO effect in the Chinese market. People simply will BE ABLE to resell this phone in the way they want it...

Then probably within a month, some unknown manufacturer in China will likely make a knock-off version of it...

What´s motorola got to worry about... who in its right mind is gonna buy this piece of cr@p for $2000??? So what are they gonna do?? what if you sell it on ebay??? are they going to fine you? or make you do Jail time? that is just dumb! But I guess that is one of the million reasons why "Moto" is going bye bye!!!

It's a move that comes with pro's and cons. I own some top phones which i paid good money for. Some really exclusive stuff. And this phone looks pretty exclusive. Veblen goods i think. Irregardless, i dont want to be paying what i pay for my stuff and someone else gets away with it at a lesser price.

but you wont be able to get it online "at a fraction of the price", thats the whole point of this

It's your fault if you were dumb enough to drop 2k on it when you can get it online for "a fraction of the price".

                                    Very smart move !

Motorola did something that no other cellular company ever had the courage to do ! :)

I totally agree with them. It doesn`t seem fair to me, that some low life geek or punk, could have such a great phone for a low price on ebay or whatever second hand market...

                                    Great Job Motorola ! :)

No matter what comments are given by lover of other brands, Motorola still produces some of the best phones. Period.

I doubt if anyone buy or had owned more mobile phones than I do ... cheap or expensive ones included. I use Moto W181 all the way up to a Vertu constellation...

sounds like a good move. imagine how it would feel to drop $2000 on a cellphone, and later see some cheapskate walking around with as well just cause he got it from a second hand market at a fraction of the price.
