Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025I know steamOs is more optimized than windows. But does it ... moreMany games and applications don't support Linux. Windows has much better software support.

You can run games from Epic or Gog (where you can download and store all game installers, no DRM) or Amazon stores with all-in-one 3rd party installer.
You can play games such as Cyberpunk or Horizon zero dawn installed on the Steam deck.
You can emulate systems from Atari 2600 to PlayStation 3, or C64 to MS-Dos classics, with arcade games thanks to Mame support.
Besides, with GeForce now support and Steam remote play, you still can play AAA games with your Gforced 4090 / Ryzened 7800x3d PC as powerhouse, sitted on you couch or in the bathroom.
All of that on a Linux system.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025Compatibility issues are there for Linux. I honestly think ... moreSteam: Go online to go offline to play the games you bought.
Denuvo: Have an online drm check, everytime you boot up a game, if you are pirating that game that you already paid for.

OneBraincelledWunkus, 08 Jan 2025Non issue except with riot games. I've heard battleeye... moreDenuvo didn't allow me to play Atlus' Persona game, that I PAID FOR, when Denuvo servers got DDOS'd. Of course, the steam white knights just told me to go outside and turn a blind eye on the performance issues that malware causes.
Thankfully, the scammy Bamco has the decency to allow disabling it but I still need to contend with Steam DRM lol.

Folks the guy who said don't by anything that doesn't have a dual or a hybrid SIM could be wrong, this, this is our shot.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025Just use SteamOS, it's open source, no spying by MS or... moreCompatibility issues are there for Linux. I honestly think most steam deck owners only play indie games on steam which is why they don't notice the massive drawback Linux has.
Also being locked into the steam store, filled with games you don't own. Big L for game ownership and preservation.

Bot10Exists, 08 Jan 2025Huge W for Linux gaming.I honestly want Valve to release Steam console with SteamOS which would have better custom apu than ps5 pro and with 32gb of ram.
Even if it would cost about the same as ps5 pro(Valve would not make much profit on hardware but on software) it would be new standard in pc gaming which would even allow VR gaming on it wirelessly with rumored Valve Deckard.

rizki1, 08 Jan 2025Anti-cheat is also what makes SteamOS not support many games.Non issue except with riot games. I've heard battleeye works now, literally the only anticheat that doesn't work is that which injects into the kernal, literally a rootkit, which from what I've read won't be a thing in the future on windows also because microsoft is locking stuff down.

I want to have this someday, I'm more interested in something like this than a flagship phone. The price was rumored to be $400 which is good but $500 is SteamOS.
