Nintendo Switch 2 renders show a familiar but upscaled design with an 8.4" display

08 January 2025
That's up from 7.0" on the Switch OLED, which itself was a bump up from the 6.2" on the original Switch.

In theory 8 x A78 can reach around sd 8 gen 2 level, but rumors switch will have low clock so between 8 gen 1 to 8 gen 2, am not sure though.

Is it only better at performance or better at both performance and efficiency? Also, do you think that the performance of 8 A78 cores will be close to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3?

When Dimensity 8100 came out not only it surpass sd 888 it even surpass sd 8 gen 1, it had only 4xA78 at that time.

Only cortex A720/A725 is reasonably better core than A78.

                  Anonymous, 10 Jan 2025Between 8 A78 cores and an X1, 3 A78, and 4 A55 cores, whic... moreI think 8 core A78 is better.

The 1+3+4 configuration makes sense for other uses, like personal computing (phone or laptop). It's meant to both maximize peak single threaded performance (the single prime core), very important for use in anything web; but also energy efficiency for extended standby (the 4 A55 cores).

Gaming has largely being optimized for sustained multi-core performance configuration for the last 10 years. In that sense the 8-core A78 is more aligned to that paradigm.

A single prime core can't sustain peak performance for a long time, so will fall for the releavitve performance of the non-prime cores well within gaming time + the 4 "small" cores are usually really small; so like in "real world" terms, would end up peforming more akin to a 5-6 core, when compared to 8 "big" cores.

ThankGodItsFriday, 10 Jan 2025I'm honestly not interested in a bigger, better Switch... moreBy the way, as for the Nintendo Switch eShop, the successor to the Switch supports Switch games, so it's almost a certainty that it'll be up and running for at least 10 years from now. As for Star Fox, Miyamoto is no longer active in software development, so it's unlikely that a new Star Fox game will be released anytime soon.

ThankGodItsFriday, 10 Jan 2025I'm honestly not interested in a bigger, better Switch... moreWell, you don't need to be a fan of a company to buy its product. If you like it, you can buy it. If you don't like it, you don't need to buy it. It's that simple. People vote with their money. I don't like Apple as a company, but I consider to buy a future model of an iPad Pro 13 because objectively the iPad Pro 13 is the best tablet money can buy. I may not buy one, though, because it will be extremely expensive.

I'm honestly not interested in a bigger, better Switch. I have three reasons to not buy this:

First off, I'm no longer a Nintendo fanboy. I used to be "Nintendo everything", but after years of crappy customer service, terribly high prices, and mediocre games that no longer impress me like they used to, I've fallen out of love with the company. It's just not worth it anymore to invest in Nintendo's games.

Second, my greatest worry is this: What will happen to the Switch games you download digitally when the Switch services are no more? Somewhere down the road, Nintendo's gonna pull the plug on the servers to make room for whatever newer console they have, and as I have witnessed over and over, whenever they do that, things break. There is no planning and making sure older consoles can work without these essential services; instead, they just pull the plug and leave them in whatever state they end up becoming. Heck, Miiverse was no longer a thing for about five years before Wii U and 3DS services were completely shuttered - and they didn't even bother removing the Miiverse integrations on these devices via an update or whatever!

Lastly, I've found PC gaming to be more appealing. Steam is my daily go-to anymore, and I also have games under GOG.com, itch.io, and Epic Games, of which I got games on those platforms legit for free due to the many giveaways they do! I find that the DRM on these platforms is a bit less "walled garden" and varies on a per-game basis, rather than the whole platform having strict DRM where you can't do anything to the games. Heck, they even allow mods! There's something Nintendo would NEVER allow!

All that said, If I was to reinvest in modern console gaming... well, dare I say that PlayStation's looking pretty good to me right now? The only thing I can't fully justify is the pricing... but hey, you get loads more power for what they charge, so maybe it's already better than Switch 2? 🤔

These are just my thoughts and not anything more; I have nothing against Nintendo fans, only Nintendo itself. You like Nintendo? You keep doing you. Frankly, I'd still be a Nintendo fan if they'd have better service, and maybe bring back Star Fox... 🙏🏻

DomtheCuber, 09 Jan 2025I’m really excited for the Switch 2 to get a faster process... moreSplatoon 3 Online does not always run at 60fps and when the speed drops so do the resolution and graphics. It is especially noticeable in the higher levels of Salmon Run or in the more difficult levels of the Side Order expansion. Splatoon 2 and its Octo Expansion feel much better optimized, with better resolution and graphics.

People use their Playstation for years upon years, even after they stop making games for it and the new one comes out. And even after they get tired of it they either store it somewhere, so that they can take it out for nostalgia every year or so, or they gift it/sell it to someone who's actually gonna use it or collects them. Very rarely do functioning Playstation end up in the trash. In fact, Playstations sometimes outlast even cars for usage.
