No telephoto, no UFS 3.1, and a reduced battery. I don't see any upgrades from the 13 Pro+ in the global version, while India and China received the options for the same model.

Samsung does have 7 years of update support - and Xiaomi? 2 major Android updates, when you buy a cheap Poco, or Redmi, have fun with this! And Updates all 2-3 months, good luck with that.

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2025The peak is the Chinese version of Redmi Note 14 Pro plus..... moreI'm also factoring in the launch price. For what it costed by then, you got a lot of phone even if as GSMarena's review notes with a more powerful chipset would have been still better.
The India/China variant, sure it can be that. The global version despite having a much more powerful SoC and quite better screen and main camera not so much and it's a pity.

Gnusmas, 11 Jan 2025no, disabling MIUI optimizations is introducing more issues... moreNever listen to anyone who recommends Samsung device over xiaomi.
Of course disabling MIUI optimization is good idea for developers and tinkerers. Then it's much easier to directly install apps through adb for instance.

Why drop Telephoto lense?
8mp ultra wide in 2025?
1080p selfie video at that price?
Ok.

Just disable ads in each stock app, disable unnecessary bloatware you don't need with adb tools (don't touch Secutiy app it leads to bootloop) Xiaomi devices need slight tweaking to make UI more minimalistic, without ads, bloatware etc. Especially with prices of Xiaomi smartphones since like 2022 it's hard to recommend them, I'd rather buy some BBK or Samsung smartphone.

$550 for a mediocre midrange device is too expensive.
It should be $350 max
And yes Xiaomi is still my favorite phone company and will be forever. Once you try xiaomi there is no going back

pl2rts, 11 Jan 2025I didnt have any ads on my global version of Redmi note 5 A... moreWow, that's a really old phone.
We have had various Xiaomi devices, ranging from Redmi/Redmi Note series to Poco X/F series, etc. They all have ads, especially the ones injected by their own built in apps that cannot be uninstalled, like their "cleaner app" that even hijacks app installations from Google Play store to show ads after user tap the install/get button. And don't get me started on their notorious web browser that keeps hijacking links, popping up notifications, and reverting to being the default after software updates.
Sure, techies can tinker around to visually disable those ads (you're not disabling the telemetries though unless you go deeper or just use custom ROM completely). So in short, yes, they have ads.
Now, when Xiaomi was $100 - $200 phones max, sure, I can turn a blind eye. I understand the economics of subsidies. But when we are talking about 500 Euro device, come on. It's insulting.

potato4k, 11 Jan 2025€500 phone with ads.

If the ads are in the apps that are with the phone then what about them ? I dont really care cause the ads are in the app. Just like all the free apps you can download from play store are full of ads. Even something like Yatzy dice game i have since the time i had Nokia Lumia 520 now have ads after every game
But i do agree that there is nothing to protect on Xiaomi with their Redmi series that now are too expensive to make any rational sense to buy any of them
Now Redmi Note series is like Nokia/HMD that ask insane price and give nothing in return. Not even 5 to 7 OS updates that would make sense in that price range with these features as that is the Samsung A5x range

€500 phone with ads.
You have to wonder why there are still Xiaomi fanboys.
Xiaomi is really grasping at straws as their lower end being eaten by Transsion.
