Pesugihan PowerPC, 13 Jan 2025I'm afraid it won't be an easy feat for Carl Pei ... moreNothing doesn't just make phones, they also have earbuds, smartwatches, charger etc.
Talking about brand recognition, Nothing has been watched by millions of Indonesians on YouTube. I think it is well known by people who like phones.

Can't wait for the next Nothing Phone and all the influencers clearly paid by Carl Pei to hype it.

Nothing is really trying to make a market share. Quite a genius tho. The only thing holds me back is the 2khz anti-flickering. I'd like to see a 4khz or better. Still great!

rizki1, 13 Jan 2025Also expand your sales to Indonesia, millions of people alr... moreI'm afraid it won't be an easy feat for Carl Pei to do that due TKDN regulation. Also, most of the TKDN produced phone is mostly big name which has a lot of dozens of SKUs.
Compared with nothing and their co-brand, their product SKUs can be finger counted, from business standpoint splitting production here for a few SKUs isn't good for them, not counting for TKDN dealing stated above, distribution, marketing, local warranty, etc. So much factor and business decision for making non mainstream phone maker operating business in Indonesia.
Also, Nothing is almost have no recognition outside of our tech bubble, most of people only know and buy safe, big brands (Apple/Samsung/Xiaomi/Huawei etc).

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2025So to understand you, 7 years of support is more important ... moreIt's questionable, whether a phone really NEEDS that many OS updates. In contrast to its early years, Android has reached almost a ceiling, it is very polished, it has substantially improved in performance, in multitasking-efficiency, on the battery-draining side (since Android 14), refresh-rate handling, user interface optimizations - there is really little left that needs some huge improvements.
Heck, I do even have a phone that is based - shockingly! - on Android 10, but still runs buttery smooth and gets regular security updates.
Nowadays, it's the security updates that are much more important than many OS-updates.
This could of course end anytime, should google decide to make future Android versions incompatible with current apps.

Carl Pei is a genius and the "Nothing" phones so far have certainly exceeded expectations in almost every metric, most notably their price/performance ratio, build quality, design language and user interface. It's really a fresh wind in the market.
That being said, ALL companies that started with so called "flagship killer"-phones ultimately ended with proper flagships almost as expensive as those from traditional brands, once they have established a name and reputation for themselves.
Let's hope that Nothing is still in the "market penetration"-phase and that their upcoming Phone (3) will be a proper "flagship" but at substantially lower cost.

Darth Caesium, 13 Jan 2025They can't when the 40% revenue invested into local jo... moreno they don't need a lot of investment like Apple for like $1B, Xiaomi and Samsung are much lower than that and they can be official here.. Apple invests big here because they get big sales here too. What our government didn't accept before was that Apple's investment was very small compared to what they got... iPhone sales in Indonesia are the largest in South East Asia.

Nothing is too small as a company to be able to do that without going bankrupt. I'm sure they would've released their phones there otherwise.
