PureOS, 14 Jan 2025Dimensity 8400 is much cheaper than 8s elite. Same is with ... moreThe issue I have is not with you but the source. They are false articles posted on X reported here (in some case source deleted within hours).
These leakster know their post will be quoted as source (reported without checking) go viral.
The Mediatek & Qualcomm price for example one source IU/ DCS for the entire planet.
The unit cost has 0.0001% of being accurate as it is so commercially sensitive disclosure is akin to corporate espionage. Vivo will not know what Samsung pays or Vice versa pay Qualcomm (contractually prohibited)
MediaTek will NOT know what Vivo pays Qualcomm.
A joke now? Samsung Ceo will know the internal transfer cost Samung pays Samsung for Exynos Soc. ( X here I come)
Additionally volumes affect unit cost so despite the different Snapdragons when Samsung went 100% Qualcomm it paid
effectively 'less' per SoC, than when split with Exynos.
The price quoted first saw the light of day when posted. NO actual SoC manufacturer was contacted
I accept that MediaTek Dimensity cost less than Qualcomm as Qualcomm charges charged a premium for being the superior product.
Fyi you won't find another source verification of the two prices but quoted as fact. They are people who are extremely skeptical of these figures.
My initial post was to state why the 8s Elite name is COMPLETELY WRONG if Arm Cortices are used.
Unknown is if (as has been done before) this is a mocked up benchmark produced to embellish a "story"
8S Gen 3 announced March 18, 2024
1x 3 GHz – Cortex-X4
4x 2.8 GHz – Cortex-A720
3x 2 GHz – Cortex-A520
If I wanted to name a SoC based on a possibly faked benchmark with the purported architecture I simply wouldn't.
The article reports from a source "unsubstantiated" the details contradicts established facts.
SNAPDRAGON 8 GEN 3 announced October 24, 2023
1x 3.3 GHz – Cortex-X4
3x 3.15 GHz – Cortex-A720
2x 2.96 GHz – Cortex-A720
2x 2.27 GHz – Cortex-A520
Adreno 750
Familiar????

Disappointed with Mediatek and Snapdragon with their sub flagship chips this year. Last year was exciting for midrange. This year it's the flagships that are exciting.

Maybe they are using Oryon Phoenix-M cores which might explain the name 8s 'Elite'

If this will be on a 3nm process, the benefits might just outweigh the costs.

"Note that the 8s Elite does not use the Oryon cores that were developed in-house by Qualcomm but still features the ARM-designed cores that were used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generation. However, there is a boost to CPU clock speed and one more middle core (at the cost of one small core). Also, the Adreno 825 GPU is from the same generation as the Elite chip (and not a 700 series GPU)"
Gsmarena have provided a graphic.(Is it possible to cut & paste? if 1989 taught us nothing it didn't)
The words speak volumes as does a source DCS
The name cannot be 8s Elite if it is NOT using custom Oryon cortices
Assuming the clock speed is correct AND Oryon yes
If on the other hand stock Arm cortices then NO. The tipster have gotten the name wrong.
Just like we were in 2023 and after Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 other Qualcomm SoC were being released not named 8s Gen 3
Oryon equals 8s Elite YES
Arm stock cortices. NO

Downplaying the downgrade. The 8s gen 3 was like 500k less in score than the 8 gen 3. The 8s elite is a 900k downgrade from the 8 elite

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2025Wow.... I fully expected the "elite" to use oryon... moreNot sure why you expect that if you look at the trend you pretty much wait 1 more year to get the top end stuff down shifted to the 8s/7+gen line.

Unless they did something crazy with the GPU, Dimensity 8400 is the better option

And they believe the 1 X4 + 3 A720 were enough to fight the 8300
And seeing the Antutu result of 8400, they releasing the 1 X4 +3+2 A720
So, it's very important for us to have Mediatek push their 8000 series.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2025Wow.... I fully expected the "elite" to use oryon... moreFor me the dissapointing part is actually to know which one which
Now, we really need a PHD to memorize that not all "the same generation" using the same CPU generation.

8s elite looks like a down clocked 8 gen 3. Like how 8s gen 3 was a down clocked 8 gen 2. And 7+ gen 2 was down clocked 8+gen 1.

Bit disappointing it isn't using the new Oryon cores, but it was to be expected.
