The problem with the tiktok ban, is that users migrating to...say...Rednote will be migrating to an app that doesn't have the regulations that tiktok has. This app has no data centres in the US. I fear that the US may end up creating a restricted internet like China. Yes, vpn's can be used, but those could also be banned.

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2025The supreme court deems the move to ban the app legal. Not ... moreNo chance? All they have todo was keep their servers/data within China like what US does & Tiktok complied to this. But what US demanded later on was sell it's ownership to US w/c obviously Tiktok will never sell & i have never hear China demanding any US company running there to be sold to them. BTW Apple, Microsoft, KFC, Coca-cola, Mcdonalds, etc. many US owned company are still doing business in China.

US companies left because they don't want to comply with CN govt when they were investigating a terr**** att*** that happened in China many years ago.

If I move to the US, what social media should I use if tiktok is banned there?

Well i heard straight from Elon Musk he have plans to buy Tik Tok just like he did with twitter. But lets see.

Same with this TikTok ban, a lot of opposition to it here despite China banning a multitude of western social media apps.

Sorry, but while the US has a questionable attitude here, people defending China's banning foreign social media completely forget that the US doesn't have a great internet wall.

                                  Take your blinkers off.

With those data you can manipulate content to force people to change their preferences, trends, what and when they buy, sell those data to advertisers.

From user perspective tiktok is just social platform full of stupid videos and people, but deep down its money maker, as today ALL internet related companies use information's as currency. And if one company or government cant put hands on it, they will force you to give it up or remove you from their region.
