500 euro windows laptops have OLED. But a 1.4k laptop from Apple whose screen size is 13 inches is just laughable 😂. Apple tax is really good!

TheSnowWinterR7, 19 Jan 2025I currently owned Asus Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (2022 Edition, ... moreThe problem is more with the TN panel than all LCDs. A quality IPS panel (not even mini-LED necessarily) with good, but not eye-searing brightness is still the all-around best choice for laptop screens in my mind. Maybe if you need to edit video on a plane you could use an OLED, but the burn-in risk is just too high with all the static elements in Windows or MacOS.

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2025You were frustrated by the colors? I have a zen book pro 14... morewith more modern OLEDs, burn in is only a real issue if you keep your display at 100% brightness consistently

I wish they went mini led like the old zyphrus. In 2023.
Let alone you have to do all these measure is case you wanted to keep your laptop for long like hiding th task bar so it doesn't burn on the screen

potato4k, 19 Jan 2025Why would anyone want an OLED panel on a laptop? Desktop UI... moreI currently owned Asus Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (2022 Edition, Ryzen 5 5600H) since 2023, and one of the reason I chose OLED because I was so frustrated with my two previous laptop having a limited scope of color and angle viewing (both are TN LCD) and wanted a hybrid laptop that can do both laptop and tablet stuffs simultaneously. I do have to be careful about taking care of my OLED laptop.

potato4k, 19 Jan 2025Why would anyone want an OLED panel on a laptop? Desktop UI... moreExactly. Even if they don't "burn in", those pixels will wear out bit by bit, meaning the display colour gets warmer over time (since blue pixels deteriorate faster) and the maximum brightness would decrease substantially. This is why I was quite disappointed when I found out Apple decided to use an OLED display for iPad Pro, like sure it's a dual-layer OLED so it would last longer than a single-layer one, but they would eventually suffer from the same problem as most OLEDs would.

The title made me think MBA will get a mini LED display like MBP this time around, but I guess they'll stick to a regular TFT panel with no local dimming zone.
Smoother visuals would be appreciated - I've seen the M4 series MBP in a retail store and there was noticeably less ghosting (something a hands-on review by ShortCircuit also confirms). But my MBP M1 Pro's display kinda spoiled me for good and I wouldn't enjoy using an MBA anymore if I got to use one myself.

Why would anyone want an OLED panel on a laptop? Desktop UI is filled with static UI elements and icons, risking high chance for burn ins. Those “pixel moving” technology doesn’t seem to help OLED panels used on TVs with similar static elements and getting burn ins.

"The lackluster sales of the latest iPad Pro are likely due to the hefty price tag, which is elevated by the expensive OLED screen."
Don't forget the lack of a true desktop OS inside the iPad Pro. Apple can put as much computing power as they want in the iPad Pro, but iPadOS won't make it do much.
