PS: I own the dual sceen LG G8x, I use it without the dual screen though, almost all the time. Weight, size and all being the reasons, the novelty wears off with time...

It's only downside is being a little slow by modern specifications.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2025Gaming phones should not have the camera bump.It is an acceptable opinion, but what if the phone wishes to excel at both photography and gaming? Then I think its a tolerable compromise.
Anyhow, far bigger problems include:- no availability in a lot of countries including mine: India, overpriced, no competitive edge, after sales scare, etc.

Also, RedMagic sales has been rising since their RM8PRo series, and the downfall of ROG Phones started when they release their ROGPHone 8Pro series which sucks as a gaming phone and are overpriced.
Secondly, nubia's been expanding their global market presence as well. Hope they'll improved more on their existing 2-3 years of software support.

BlackShark did this before on limited markets by rebranding the BlackShark 4 as the BlackShark 5RS.
Meanwhile, RedMagic sells their ex-flagship/older devices at an even lower price now: their older RedMagic 9/9SPro only now retails around $540 and below, now that the RedMagic 10Pro is released, but you're still getting all the flagship hardware and features it has than getting an "FE" model with several downgrades but will still cost more than an ex-flagship.

If it's just ROG8, why not just simply selling both ROG8 and 9 instead of wasting money on making a (presumably) new shell, packaging, and all marketing materials? Consumers can easily decipher "oh, 9 is the latest and more expensive, 8 is last year's but cheaper. If I want the latest, I pay more, if I want to save money, I'll get the 8." Seems very straightforward, adding on the lucky number 8 they can ride on with Chinese New Year on the corner.
Renaming it into a 9 FE actually feels like Asus is trying to mislead consumers so people would think "oh, it's also new since it has the same 9 number," but it's not new.
Oh well, it's the Taiwanese. They're just bad in marketing, with management as poor as the Japanese.

Copying the FE naming scheme is lame, but the concept is welcome. The ROG's niche features always interested me more than the raw performance, so I'll be considering either this or the Xcover 7 Pro for my next phone, assuming it comes to the US.

Vasra, 20 Jan 20252 years of updates , no sources and locked bootloader. Who ... moreIt's even dead in the water in Taiwan. Even HTC has regained some market over there, while Asus is nowhere to be seen, since it seems they have pretty poor post-sale customer support.

DarlingYext, 20 Jan 2025Asus has been very disapponting in the past couple of years... moreInspired by the bootloop issues, LG will launch a phone shaped like a cylinder. The screen looping in a perfect circle. It will provide true multitasking. Just rotate phone with switch apps. Finally you can wear on your arm or legs as and go running and count steps.

It's not lost on their target demographic that (chipset aside) the ROG 9 is arguably a downgrade from the 6/7. They basically stripped out a load of stuff on the 8,then partially readded it to the 9 and called it an 'upgrade'. Speakers are still crap and the supposed 185hz is only accessible on an handful of games and not in the UI.

I think that Asus mobile division should only focus on desktop gaming products and leave phones behind! Nobody buys their expensive phones.
