Aierlan, 22 Jan 2025Xiaomi 15 and the competition from cheaper phones like OPPO... morehmm makes sense but like the xiaomi 15 is a "compact" phone and the only competitor is the X200 Pro Mini and that thing's just too good man, kinda unfair to the xiaomi cus like it's the best compact phone out there

jiyen235, 22 Jan 2025let's pray Oneplus adds a competent UW cam to a R seri... moreTrue. It was ahead of it's time for sure. The same great price/performance ratio for other consumer electronics too. They were all ahead of their time and nothing replicated that so far. The hilarious thing is that I bought it twice (1st time it was stolen, but in mint condition for $200 back in 2023 June then the 2nd time I bought it with cracked screen (barely noticable during daily usage) for $70 in 2024 July to replace my temporary work phone - Samsung A21s) and neither of the times they arrived with elsewhere aforementioned issue like green lines screen.

jiyen235, 22 Jan 2025what xiaomi phones are you talking about and which vivo/opp... moreXiaomi 15 and the competition from cheaper phones like OPPO find x8, Vivo x200, and Realme gt7 pro. Also the Oneplus 13 is the same price but comes with the LYT600 too. They will definitely upgrade the Xiaomi 16 to a periscope and probably with a better sensor too. It's basically the main weakness on the Xiaomi 15. It's still good at 2.6x in reasonable light but it isn't great beyond that. Maybe 5x at a push in good light. Periscopes generally work better for hybrid zoom

jiyen235, 22 Jan 2025how is the jn5 bad as a telephoto? I saw the Xiaomi 13 Pro ... moreI'm comparing to the competition at the same price from OPPO, Vivo and Realme which use imx882/lyt600 and last year used OV64b. The jn5 is indeed worse than all these sensors. It's okish on the Redmi but they could be using a better one on the Xiaomi 15 as it's behind the current and previous generation from similarly priced competitors

Your phone is an unfortunate one, it was so great that newer upgrades don't really matter cus concessions like the UW cam nerf on the R series phones would make it an upgrade AND a downgrade, not to mention the perfect size that phone had. Great choice bud, the true definition of suffering from success lmao

jiyen235, 22 Jan 2025What you're saying kind of makes sense and i also whol... moreTrue, can't disagree with that. I'm still holding onto OP 8T for a little more, hopefully I can stretch it to 2026 due to lack of funds atm for a "proper" upgrade. Cos the only "all rounder" upgrades to it are either at least 2 year old (3 year old, if I'm seeking to slightly sacrifice SD865 performance or equalize) flagships or last year flagship killers. Since I don't game on my phone and SoC is not that brutally relevant for me, I'd still would like a more powerful SoC just to keep up with camera chip performance.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2025Makes you question how useless phone releases have become..... moreWhat you're saying kind of makes sense and i also wholeheartedly agree that it's not THAT important now to make a change, but the thing is that the value proposition has never been better. I remember when midrangers were completely worthless apart from battery back in the day after a year or two, at least now you can use em for more than 2 years if you wanted to, if you're a normie ofc.
And like, I haven't really been excited enough to upgrade either, I used to upgrade in a year or a year and a half but nowadays phones are pushing it, yeah, but aren't making such huge leaps that i'd consider switching.

Aierlan, 22 Jan 2025The k80 pro already uses a 50mp 2.6x upright telephoto. 50m... morehow is the jn5 bad as a telephoto? I saw the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 14 samples and they were excellent telephoto cameras. I don't think a periscope by itself means anything, the sensor behind it dictates the quality.
And I'd rather have a 2.5-4x telephoto than a 5x telephoto any day. 5x is just a worthless gimmick unless someone is a real zoom nerd. The telephoto cams are excellent portrait shooters and 2.5-3.5x is the perfect focal length for that, 5x is just too much.
Besides, it's not like the K80 Pro is supposed to be a flagship, a phone in this price class having both this chip and this camera is unprecedented basically.

jiyen235, 21 Jan 2025The K80 Pro didn't get the chance to get settled prope... moreMakes you question how useless phone releases have become... I know Xiaomi has turned into an v1.5 annual rebranded e-waste forward zombie factory, but holy S I never thought I would say this, but mobile market from hardware enthusiast POV is dead. Unless you're upgrading from a very old phone - there is nothing else worth in the market apart essentials, unless extra dips are sought after like improved SoC, camera, battery life, display. It's sad to see, but makes sense that a great lineup comes out to the markets once in a while (like the transition from redefining Redmi Note 10 series to Xiaomi 13 series) and the rest of filler years followed by trash.

Jesus Christ... We don't even have the K80 series rebrand releases for global, yet the new series rumors already leak lol. But generally speaking, I'm done with K series in general, because unless Xiaomi drastically improves camera performance - I ain't intered one bit. I know I know that T series is dedicated for that, but wish they could improve the F series as a non-gamer that cares about price/performance ratio that ain't Pixel or Samsung, my choices are quite narrow and apart from Xiaomi T series, there is nothing else left out of this brand.

I won't be surprised if it's the same 3x zoom camera Xiaomi have been using for quite a while.

GSMArena user1, 21 Jan 202550MP is a nice upgrade The k80 pro already uses a 50mp 2.6x upright telephoto. 50mp is no upgrade in terms of resolution. The upgrade is going from an upright telephoto to a 3x periscope but the sensor is yet to be confirmed. Wouldn't be surprised if they use the same jn5 again though. Xiaomi has been giving the worst telephoto performance for their flagship Redmi and Xiaomi series outside the ultra models. Still the jn5 and no periscope in the Xiaomi 15 and k80pro whilst all their Chinese competitors have periscopes with better sensors. Main sensors are fine but they are offering the worst zoom outside the ultra model
