xPandamon, 28 Jan 2025If they can afford a crappy budget phone that won't la... moreI guess I see your point. Assuming someone has reliable internet access, they can buy a Galaxy M05 for 6500 rs (75 USD), which is only a little bit more expensive than this phone. For that money, they’d get a 12nm Helio G85 and 2 OS updates.
Still, I think it’s important to note that consumers don’t have much of a choice in the budget phone market if they want a long lasting phone. Many people don’t have time to research phones to see why a Galaxy M05 is a better buy than a Lava Yuva Smart, and I think some of this is on purpose. By overcrowding the budget phone market, companies make it difficult and time consuming for people who might not know much about phones to find a good one. Xiaomi is especially guilty of this, often releasing very similar phones under different brand names.
And even if someone can identify what phones are long lasting, brands still design their budget phones to look good on spec sheets and in marketing, even when it comes at the cost of usability. If we take the example of the Galaxy M05, Samsung chose to spend its already limited hardware budget on a useless 2mp depth sensor so they could say this phone has a dual camera setup. And if we take a look one tier higher in Samsung’s lineup, the A05s also has a 2mp macro and a 90hz screen. These thing aren’t there to provide extra value to people that don’t have much money to spend on a phone in the first place, they’re there so Samsung can advertise a triple camera setup and a high refresh rate display.

DomtheCuber, 28 Jan 2025Most people buying these phones can't afford anything ... moreIf they can afford a crappy budget phone that won't last long for 70 dollars converted, they can afford one at 100 dollars converted which will easily outlast these. Still nothing crazy, but certainly more future proof. Also even India has plenty of phones around 150-200 dollars so people can seemingly afford those.

This phone looks decent at least compared to my 1st and 2nd android phone which took Rs. 4000 in 2013 and Rs. 8300 in 2016.
But compared to my 3rd android phone it's specs looks not good.
Still a good option for many to do all the basic things like reading, browsing, whatsapp, camera, movie, music, map, banking, shopping etc.
Looks like almost everything can be done in this type of mobile.
So, have fun.

Change isn't gonna come from these people voting with their wallets; they can't afford to vote with their wallets. Change will only happen once we pass legislation to stop phone companies from creating cheap disposable crap that's built to break.
