It serve a different purpose.. allowing people to have a large ultra wide display tethered to a wire.
Until Apple can put a powerful A or M series chip in a glass + battery that weigh less then 100g. I think the stakeholders will never go ahead. No one wants a wired glasses or powered with battery pack for a AR experience, nor a laggy AR.

AR/VR glasses will never take off because they're incompatible for those of us who wear actual glasses. Only headsets have any shot of finding a market.

Apple would have loved such glasses if they needed on-board computing. But well, this is not needed:)
