So I've bought X7 Pro for $270. 15 Ultra has a faster processor (say +100$) and better cameras (say another $100). Bigger memory configuratoin (+80). So all in all a nice $550 phone.

Darth Caesium, 7 hours agoThis phone really should've used a 50mm focal length f... moreWhen the cropped 2x is as good as Xiaomi's, I think they made the right move here. Their 2x shots are only beaten by Vivo, the 14 Ultra's only competitor at 2x in terms of cropping performance is the X100 Ultra.
Ofc, I'd have loved a 2x or better yet, a 2.5x that'll sit between the super-telephoto and the 2x crop and act as a better bridge than the 3x.
Whatever the case, I don't really think their decision is that bad if you consider the fact that the main purpose of a medium telephoto on a phone is to just help in portrait photography. Imo 2.5-3.2x is the perfect focal length that strikes the perfect balance between the distance needed from the subject and the compression. At least for me this telephoto setup looks great, tho i do understand where you're coming from. Just imagine a 1/2" 2.5x telephoto with f/2-f/2.4 aperture, that'd be a very realistic scenario, since the focal length is shorter the size difference might not be that problematic, and the shots should be terrific!

Too sad, it doesn't come with a 35mm F1.4 or F1.8 for the main camera..IMX858 Sony Sensor is a extremely tiny 1/2.51", go figure, and then -with 50 MP! Yikes. This Sensor size was standard for various cheapskate compact cameras, before 2012...with 10, 12 or 16, up to 20 MP, usually. And the image quality really low. I've had hopes for a 15 "ULTRA" with 1.0"/Type 1.0 Sensor for the main camera, also as 50 MP Ultra-wide camera, and 200 MP/1.4" Samsung Sensor. Sadly, not the case here. And i guess, the upcoming ViVO X200 Ultra also doesn't feature a 1" Sensor as main camera, like the X100 Pro/Ultra before...it's a shame.

This phone really should've used a 50mm focal length for the shorter-range telephoto, and given it that same f/1.8 aperture that the 13 Ultra and 14 Ultra had. 70mm is just too close to the 100mm focal length of the second telephoto to be useful, and 50mm would allow for real, distortion-free photography, which would give the phone's cameras even more versatility.
Hell, maybe go nuts and use ALoP on both telephotos (though I've had a sneaking suspicion that the longer-range telephoto already uses it ever since Samsung first announced ALoP). If so, the 50mm could use a Sony LYT-600 sensor or even a Sony LYT-701 sensor.
