I can see how someone not in this line of work could mistake them, but having a really strong launch and then disappointing rest of the year is really common for not only tech products but also other goods, videogames included.

Which chinese brand sold flagship at least 10% of those units??
Of course you cant answer it, becausw all chineaw brands are too embarassed to share its low number of flagship sold.
Probably its only 60-70 units per year.

Apple and Samsung sell the most premium phones and Samsung is still a very far second place to Apple. The others have to put more effort into building their brand awareness with consumers. It's similar to the Oscars. The wins are usually from movies you never heard of.

That's what they say every year, and at the end of the year they admit that sales are disappointing... improved phones are long overdue by Samsung if they want to stop the decline of the S serie.
