US imposes a 10% tariff on products imported from China, which might be bad news for Apple

05 February 2025
Most of Apple's production is still in China - despite years-long efforts to move part of it to India.

Low spec iPhone profit margins is still very high, no issue.

So this article is in a way incorrect because people who have placed orders before Tuesday are still being charged tariff fees however Apple is obviously a big business and I mean it's America so you're right they may find a way around it however if they do people are going to be really really angry. Look up a lot of stories right now there's a lot of people posting there's also other news articles posting about it as well Yes people are being charged even for orders that they placed before the tariffs went into effect. The reason this is happening is because UPS USPS FedEx etc they did not have a system in place for this it was practically sprung on them so now they're doing what they can and that's just doing the best they can. If you don't believe me do research!

Just my opinion, 06 Feb 2025Lol, don't know about that, but it feels like a test r... moreFound a based person. 🤦🏻‍♂️

As an Indian i dont see any benefits for my fellow Indians and other consumers and workers. In the end who pays these tarifs, yes its the consumer. Also these tarifs aren't really used for any public benefit.
In India manufacturing has gained a bad name and more and more mechanical and electrical engineering colleges are having empty seats or are having to shut down these branches. This is because, people are now aware of the poor work cultures and horrible pay in this sector.

I'm also just a "normal" / "ordinary" person.

            My take on this is:
I see Indonesia forcing Apple to invest in Indonesia, and I also see India forcing all smartphone to produce in India.
So, I think Trump strategy will work!!!
Trump could adjust the rate to make it cheaper for manufacture to produce in America just like Indonesia and India did.

            But, a caution.
Local American will pay more than non-American.
Just like in India & Indonesia.
The extra cost of producing the phone will be passed on the user.
So, I don't think it will reduce the inflation, it surely will increase the inflation.
But with job, that worker can afford food, and stop being poor.... hopefully

This will not work because America don't have enough STEM graduate

              Simple math.
China have 6 million STEM graduate in 2020, 2021, 2022

              America:
              600,000 STEM graduate
in which only 300K were American & 300K were foreigner.
Meanwhile, out of 300K that were American, more than half is Chinese.
The main reason is, for majority of American, being a lawyer or banker is a better job to get rich and comfortable, and that's make STEM not attractive to many American.

The main reason manufacturing in China, specifically in southern Guangzhou is cheaper is due to the integration of various manufacturing facilities concentrated in one area reducing part costs, transportation and lead times."

                To be honest,
Chinese company that do OEM only have maybe $5 profit for each phone.
The one that make money a lot is the one that have their own brand.
So, making the iPhone in China is actually a win-win solution for American as it's make the phone price cheaper for them.

And American problem is not about no jobs.
They have jobs, but the paying is not enough because high-cost society.
The government need to reduce 3 basic human needs (housing, education & health care) that's all. So they don't need 2 or 3 jobs and creating a job shortage

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2025Optical fingerprint sensors are not blocked by screen protectors.Screen protectors, both film and tempered glass/ceramic glass ones do not interfere with optical OR ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, though in both cases it depends on the quality - if you ARE experiencing issues, it's most likely the adhesive not giving making contact with the screen and leaving gaps (being it micro ones or clearly visible). You MAY need to also check your screen settings (Samsung phones have this) for a increase-sensitivity/screen-protector mode toggle.

Seen anecdotal cases of people claiming the glass protectors being too tall, but never seen anyone prove it and all my and my acquittances' experiences has shown that even local phone store cheap Chinese tempered glass protectors work perfectly fine.

look how new Argentina president done. he removes import tariff to bring down inflation and decreasing debt. and that work so far.

trump know what he doing. he said tariff is tool for negotiate better trade deal for US not to bring bring down iflation or decreasing debt. the question is whether the countries which US put tariff will accept US demand or not. if not there gonna be trade wars soon. and global crisis is coming after that.

I believe the tariffs in the United States are to bring the U.S. citizens out of the national debt, thus making the American dollar more valuable and lowering the costs of goods made in the nation. I believe Trump's goal is to make it where the U.S. is more profitable, not just make stuff cost more.

Even so, it may be difficult for some companies to adjust. As this article states, Apple won't even have half of their manufacturing outside of China for a good while yet, and many American businesses, as well as nations not severely affected by tariffs, will need to do some proper restructuring in order to avoid tariffs on Chinese-made items.

IMHO, it's a smart move, but it will take some time for us to see the full benefits. I mean, I can't reason why else Trump would want to tax foreign nations. Feel free to try and change my mind, if you guys so wish, but that makes sense to me.
