My chip for Alexa's being 2nd born is Alexina, Xina in diminutive pretty girl form.
She will help with sales in the gifts department, later moving part time into product development.
Xina: "Tell me something about the person you want to buy a gift for."
You: "She fell and cannot get up."
Xina: "Sorry to hear that. We have a new phone with voice recognition..."

Anonymous, 07 Feb 2025i have been thinking to leave alexa for google because in t... moreWorks good but it is possible if you have old alexa it has just some dust inside the mic.
You could try cleaning the mic but if it is old maybe waiting is for google release their new Google home software and products.

Amazon wants my to pay for them to fix whats wrong with the current one. Even the New Alexa sounds like a toy at the mercy of Amazon and I'll still only get what they want. And the ads, no thanks.
I'm so tired of Alexa's long-term issues that I'm seriously looking good to just replace it. There are similar functions now available with Home Assistant. For similar costs, i can take control of my s.art devices without needing my AI device checking in with Amazon or any other devices company servers first. It'll all stay in my house.

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2025I doubt it is good enough to get many people to pay even 5 ... morei have been thinking to leave alexa for google because in the last years they changed their algorithm that they can barely hear you, sometimes i have to yell at alexa to hear me when is near me. How is google hearing the wake up command compared to alexa?

alexa should fix its hearing problems 1st, when i bought it 6--8 years ago it would hear me easily from another room, now i have to yell sometimes even when im 3m away from it with clear path, is so annoying i'd give google home a try if alexa wouldn't be so deep in my automation , many report the same issue

I use Alexa and its main task is tell the weather and a kitchen radio with alarm clock. The AI however is so remarkable bad, i am surprised they consider charging money when even handling oif one prompt (filtering specific words form prompt and hoping that was the quiestion) is generations behgind what other companies offer. (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot...)

So Claude will be powering Alexa eh. That sounds about right considering that Anthropic's been kind of quiet these past few months, probably not doing well on revenue. This partership will probably keep Anthropic happy for a long while.
But in no way am I paying a subscription for this.

I doubt it is good enough to get many people to pay even 5 dollars a month.
If Google will release their generative AI for google home products for free i think many people who actually use smart home devices would switch from Amazon Alexa, especially when it is very likely that Googles option will work with multiple languages and it is likely that the quality of generative AI is much better than with Amazon Alexa.
Google going to release Android XR based smart glasses with free generative AI assistant will also make harder for Amazon to get Alexa to many people because people do not want fragmented user experience with multiple services with multiple different devices.
I have now in my smart home all the devices connected to my Amazon Echo Dot gen 4 but i have also Google Nest Mini and i am going to compare those and then probably will sell that Amazon device and maybe even buy Google Nest audio or something like that to get better voice support in more rooms.
I made sure when i bought smart home devices that they would work both with Google and Amazon so for me switch is not going to cost me anything unless i plan to buy that Nest audio.

"AI is stealing information from us!"
"We don't need AI!"
"AI is not innovation!"
Me knowing these companies don't hear you: Womp womp
