Overpriced for 499 if there is just main camera and no ultrawide on the back.
Of course Apple is trying to upsell people regular models like 16 and pro models but the thing is most people would better off buying older model or even refurbished one for same price or even cheaper than this upcoming SE model.
Or just go with Android phone where the bang for your buck is just now days better than ever especially when there are models that have 5-7 years of security update promise.
My boyfriend likes fingerprint scanner with his 2020 iPhone SE(i paid for his phone late 2023 black friday deal changing of battery for like under 45 euros but that battery life of that phone is garbage even when he bought it new) and he is not sure will his next phone be iPhone with that face scanner or Android with fingerprint scanner.
He likes to keep his phones for a long time and do not want or need flagships and likes smaller phones and new phone should have at least 5 years of security updates.
I should get a raise and i am thinking about buying him new phone on his birthday on summer but i need to be sure what he wants, probably new(not refurb) iPhone 15 or 16 or if Android then Pixel 9a could be great option, or Pixel 8a or maybe Samsung Galaxy s24 when that phones price will drop.

SE 4 -> press release, A17 Pro, no AI stuff (keep it to premium users)
Mark my words:))
There is absolutely no need for expensive A18 chip when A16 and A17 pro chips are 50% cheaper to produce

To convince someone to buy iPhone 16 over SE 4:
-SE 4 must lack night mode, 2x telephoto like zoom and ultra wide camera
-SE4's screen must lack brightness and dynamic island
-SE 4 must have a trick to be less powerful than iPhone 16.
-SE4's speakers must be less louder than 16's speakers
-SE 4's materials must be less durable
-SE 4 must lack powerful Qualcomm 5G modem
-SE 4 must lack action button
That is why SE 4 cost $500 and iPhone 16 cost $800. But most people will continue to use iPhone 13 and galaxy a15 because of lack of innovation to justify the price.

Apple can make a decent midranger/flagship killer. All they have to do is price it right.
It may be a better deal than what Samsung/Xiaomi/OnePlus offers. Add ultrawide, 90/120hz and make it 400-450 USD and it's good to go.

Apart from becoming the lowest price officially available iPhone, it will also be the only phone of this size in the midrange price segment selling in most markets, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a top seller.

The question is what you can do with such a phone except making calls and sending messages, but such phones exist. And sell. Just look at the historical overview of phone sales: Nokia 1100 is at the top. Not Iphone.
