This isn't new. Blackberry had a hub with email and text messages all in one app. You could filter what you needed to see in the fly or have all the emails and texts show up at once.

Even before Blackberry there was ICS which functioned to aggregate all the AIM, yahoo, etc chat messages into one hub.

Another Windows Phone idea that will be the next "Greatest thing ever!" on Android/iOS like a decade later.

People's Hub on Windows Phone was this same thing but inside a feed. It was super neat and clean. And since Tiles took care of "notifications", there wasnt a spam of notifications coming from different apps at the same time.

Am I the only one who just doesn't get the point of this?

Sounds like a scheme for google to data mine people's messages when they use platforms from other companies

My nightmare scenario for an OS.. multiple notifications and badges for the same text/call/message.. yikes. The widget would be fun though.

Getting strong Blackberry vibes here, man they really should've stuck around.
