It's a slight downgrade in cameras, but you get more endurance, be it battery or physical one, which with this kind of device, be it in price or display size, important.
Good, good.

The elephant in the room is the fold of the screen.
winter sub-freezing, summer +80°f
doubt can sink an idea. We need more assurances.

jiyen235, 12 Feb 2025yeah, less cpus AT LOWER power draw. What I meant was that ... moreI doubt the mass majority of users will be pushing this phone to it's absolute limits tbh. And we don't know just how limited they are on how many cores and how high a clockspeed they can have without causing major issues. I doubt oppo would be limiting the performance of their flagship foldable for no reason. Remember it's not just the soc they have to fit in, it's also the vapour chamber and everything else.
And good for your mum. But is she someone who would buy a foldable to begin with? The average person wouldn't. And I didn't say people wouldn't notice the difference. I said they wouldn't care. It would be 'good enough' for almost everyone. The people that do care can buy something else since they have different priorities

Dennan4, 12 Feb 2025Why would you need the inner screen to be as durable as an ... moreBecause he's never used one, so he draws his tantrum demands from what he reads on the Internet while having no experience to validate these online finds against.
I've had ZF4 for a while, can say a few things about its pros and cons, but one thing I've never found myself thinking was "Gosh, I wish I could crush rocks into powder with the inner screen, what a junk technology I can't".
I'm sure your perfectly reasonable response will be met with his similarly uncompromised stance because that type of commenter has it his way, or no way.

There is no need at all for a inner screen to be a durable because it will never be as exposed.

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2025dont think thats how it works either, why would it push mor... moreyeah, it'll be slightly slower at the same power level but if you wanted the task to be performed faster you'd ideally want all the cores. Photo editing for example isn't a long term task so multi cores would've helped. The only scenario i can think of where 1 less core can help is a long video rendering task where the 8 cores would've throttled but even then the difference should be minor cus the 8 cores would've worked hard and done most of the job so the throttled output should still be better than the 7 core workload.
The phones will STILL throttle. These chips are efficient but they have high ceilings and CAN push for a lot of power. I just think that this 7 core thing is a cost cutting method. I'd like to be wrong but it just doesnt feel right to me that a Base S25 has a better CPU than a flagship foldable.

Ouifuf, 12 Feb 2025That's not how cpus work. If there's fewer cores ... moreyeah, less cpus AT LOWER power draw. What I meant was that if there's one less core then the other cores have to work harder to achieve the same performance, thus requiring more power for the same output. And if they were gonna have lower clocks anyways, why not have the 8 cores? They can just downclock it to save battery/have thermal headroom. I don't really get why they'd nerf it apart from cost savings.
Hey man, you do you but even my mum is critical of photo quality. The average person isn't dumb, they're ignorant and gullible. They can notice things they just either don't care too much to talk about it or don't know enough to explain it.

jiyen235, 11 Feb 2025thermal issues will still arise. Number of cores doesn'... moredont think thats how it works either, why would it push more power than what it's designed for?
it won't be trying to perform the same, it has 1 less core. it will for sure be slightly slower than the full 8 assuming no throttling.

jiyen235, 11 Feb 2025thermal issues will still arise. Number of cores doesn'... moreThat's not how cpus work. If there's fewer cores and possibly at a lower clocks speed it'll draw less power than more cores. Less power draw usually means less heat generated.
And again, the camera REALLY doesn't matter. As long I can make out what photo is of I don't care and me neither do a lot of people. The type of person buying this phone like the thinness and lightness, the software that helps them multitask, and the battery density compared to other foldables. It's just overall so much more important than a camera with slightly better colour rep or sharpness

I can live with the downgraded UW if the main and tele are better than N3.
Would have gladly made the islandcamera thicker for a better camera.
Ideal camera on this phone:
1/1.4 LYT-T818 30/35mm
1/1.4 HP9 85mm
1/2 UW
If you have to make the sensorUW smaller than 1/2 in any phone just cut that camera and use that space/money to improve the main/ tele.
I like the big camera island, it's at the top of the phone so you can afford to make it thicker.
