DeepSeek did a lot of propaganda to take on Chat GPT fast, but in the long run, well they are trash and it already shows.

You may wish to know that Toyota will start building Lexus EV factory in Shanghai soon.

I notice a slight right-wing bias here (which is fine) but with a ridiculous anti-us and pro-china stance. those two things really don't feel connected

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2025Same as US. Either you sell us your company or we will ban you. No one's forcing Spotify to sell themselves or face a ban, and they certainly aren't an American company. Meanwhile, conducting business in China still requires setting up a joint venture with a local company (which they have to control a majority of) unless you have enough money to essentially bribe the government (like Apple and Tesla have done).

Try researching from non WESTERN sources why western companies were "restricted" from operating in China. It's related to a T word that I cannot write a out here and western Big Tech refused to comply.

And btw, Tiktok complied with US regulations so they're able to operate in the US. Paranoia is really just one sided.

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2025And here people said USA being paranoid. Here your proof Ch... morePlease try to follow developments in China when you make general statements. There is NO need to have local partner in China in general area of manufacturing, this requirement has been abolished years ago (think about Tesla for example, do they have local partner there?).

Regarding the AI, the problem is of a different kind due to the AI laws in China which require strict security and safety conformance. That includes also the aspect that AI systems deployed in some area must be politically correct according to the rules of the area.

The article has one aspect which is typical media overhyping: suggesting that DeepSeek lost to Alibaba. This is nonsense, deploying fully tested and *certified* AI system to hundreds of millions of phones in China is absolutely beyond the small research company DeepSeek capabilities. Alibaba surely has such capabilities and their AI models are at the top with nothing precluding using elements of DeepSeek too.
