vik457, 20 hours agoWhich reports?Initially it was just some posts on X where people were finding it strange that the sensor wasn't listed as having 100% focus pixels as with the iPhone 16 main camera. Rather, it shares the 'hybrid focus pixels' found in the 16 Pro ultra wide.
Also this would explain why the photo styles feature is missing, as this sensor doesn't have the data throughput speeeds offered by either the 16 or 16 Pro main sensors.
I'm not saying this is absolutely the case, but the evidence is strong.
Obviously with the wider aperture and narrowed focal range this will perform better than the 16 Pro ultra wide (good thing too, as that is nothing to write home about) it's still a downgrade to expectations.

Plus, GSMArena’s battery comparison shows that both the iPhone 15 and 16 have longer battery life than the S24 FE. And those phones don’t have the iPhone 16e’s new modem or larger battery.

If the A18 is the justification behind the massive price increase then the 16e is continuing the same problem the SE had of being way too unbalanced. The SE3 was a great performer due to having the same chip as the iPhone 13, but the display was frankly disgusting, the battey life was terrible and the camera was mid at best.
There's probably a group out there whos use case values power more than anything else, but a mass market phone generally needs to atleast try to balance the various aspects in order to create a well rounded package. Unless you're Apple, in which case you make things like this and people will still probably buy it so why bother putting effort into it?

I wish Xiaomi would release a phone with all the US carrier bands and promote it in the US... Why not try? Seems like if marketed right a couple phones could gain entry with these weak weak Samsung and Apple releases.

Google Pixel 8 Pro is 550 euro while 16e in my country start at 740 euro as the 8/128GB version. Google Pixel 9 12/128GB version start at 670 euro
Google Pixel 8 series and 9 series performance difference is so minimal that no point to even mention.

I think this phone is a bad deal, especially since you can buy a used iPhone 13 for half the price. But compared to the vanilla iPhone 16, the 16e is a better deal for most people. In 2 years, this will be one of the best used phones you can buy, but right now it’s just not worth it.
