Jack Kracker IV, 21 Feb 2025Corpo: AI! AI! AI! AI! Consumer: Aye-yai-yai!Mexicans: Ai Ai Ai! Canta y no lores!

Modern game developers are lazy, they cannot make one greatly optimized game except maybe the Doom team. This AI might help in game optimization.

I've deleted CoPilot. I will delete that too...

I checked it out and the character evaporating within 11 seconds was really novel idea generated by AI. The "most training we could afford without going bankrupt" one, with the most checkboxes like "does not degrade over time" (because it didn't, disintegration was completely intentional!)

It's funny to look at but I see absolutely no value there. It needs original gameplay videos and user inputs to generate SOME output, and that output doesn't seem to be related to the input all that much. And it took 7 gameplay years for a single game... so... spend 200 years playing and then 3 million years analyzing and maybe it'll come up with an 11 second demo that doesn't fall apart within 11 seconds?

Or maybe hire a few actual devs to write a game demo in a few weeks or months?

It seems to me game dev jobs are secure so far!

          ""helping game developers""
Only way corpos can help developers is to leave them to work on games not on "products"

Microsoft: We're happy to announce Muse, an AI model that can create anything you want for your games!

(Muse develops a character based off of Phil Spencer' fetish)

Microsoft: ...SCRAP MUSE! SCRAP IT NOW!

            🤣

DomtheCuber, 21 Feb 2025Unfortunately it’ll probably make games less optimized and ... moreNot only bloated and less optimized, corpos also want to push these out as quickly as possible.
              No time to QA.
No time to even clean up the bugs and artifacts.

But that is not the worse offence.
The worse offence is these corpos have the audacity to ask for AAA or AAAA pricetag.
And if they don't get their way, they will flare a temper tantrum in youtube and social media.

The free entertainment / meltdown is the only good thing that AI does.

ThatOneWeabo, 20 Feb 2025Can this ai optimize games and not make them run like poor ... moreUnfortunately it’ll probably make games less optimized and more bloated. As someone learning computer science, it’s pretty easy to tell who uses ai in their code because it’s usually really messy, even on simple assignments.

Plus, ai takes the soul out of game development. Why would I take the time to play a game that no one took the time to make? (looking at you Square Enix)

ThatOneWeabo, 20 Feb 2025Can this ai optimize games and not make them run like poor ... moreThe opposite

After further reading and getting through all the buzzwords, it appears this whole thing is a hyped up AI video generator that tries to guess how humans would play a game. Just have people play test the game for fucks sake

                      Corpo:
                      AI! AI! AI! AI!

                      Consumer:
                      Aye-yai-yai!

The only good contribution this could have to game development is better AI for NPCs.

ThatOneWeabo, 20 Feb 2025Can this ai optimize games and not make them run like poor ... moreonly if its made by the same team that made doom eternal...

As a game dev, I see no use case here.

Can this ai optimize games and not make them run like poor garbage?
