PeterThePanda, 22 Feb 2025Lol. The S25 series (a.k.a S22 Gen 3) is not even a competi... moreBetter support, better security, better deals, convenient repairs, better compatibility with smart devices, more customizable OS, better compatibility with phone networks, familiarity, reliability.
There's plenty of reasons to choose Samsung over this, and it's the reason many choose to do so. Nobody will choose an unknown car brand over something tried and tested just because it has a higher horse power. It's the same reason why Hondas and Toyotas still dominate the market, same reason why Tesla sales were slow at first but then rapidly started picking up.
You drop your Oppo day 2 and the screen breaks, what are you going to do? You'll have to send it back to Aliexpress and wait months for repairs or rebuy a new phone completely. Whereas Samsung you can take it to a mobile repair shop where they have plenty of parts to repair it the next day, or bring it back to the phone company to get it exchanged since they have warranties.
Not everyone wants to be a hipster and be different, reminds me back in the day my buddy would always get Japanese ketai phones, while the phones were cool and had features that blew our "normie" phones out of the water, the moment something came up where they weren't compatible they were completely shut out with no work arounds that didn't require hours of checking forums for something.
That's why Samsung phones sell, they are able to do everything with as little fuss as possible, it's the same reason Apple sells

Un-disputed, 21 hours agoSeven years of OS updates and by the time you get two or th... moreSeven years of updates is primarily about long-term security and stability, not just new features. While performance issues can arise with older devices after several OS updates (across all brands not only Samsung), this is less common with expensive flagship devices that boast better long-term performance. Regardless, continued security patches are essential for any devices.
The real issue isn't all about the updates themselves, but also the quality of support. Big companies offering long-term support, and Samsung, with its many physical stores worldwide, can provide great, easily accessible assistance (both online and in-person) if users encounter problems with those updates.

The only bad thing about this device is optical fingerprint reader instead of ultrasound. Also, I bet they will place it inconveniently low.

P.S. : A new Law is needed the enforce all the player to use a common standardized repository.
It's pure craziness that multibillion dollars corps can perfectly support their own devices when almost all the distros @distrowatch can do this perfectly for cvasifree.
What's wrong with all these SoCs ? They use the same ARM cores. The kernel know them perfectly.
Otherwise, I can't understand why besides anti-capitalist self imposed reasons.
Anyway, this industry is perfectly suable, obviously, starting with Google for microsoftizing Android.

**Nevermind the Bootleader and the Hardware Backdoors + all the firmwares between + the proprietary broadcasting drivers.
All these are 'SUs'. Paradoxically, normal user is too subhuman to have access in a decent way for the 'su' binary.
This is pseudofascism at its apex and Microsoft paved the way for this kind if behaviors. (a corp. that destroys users data for decades with every new __patch__.).

The Market will wipe loosers out of the game. It's just a matter of time, the days of oligopols will be over.
Do you have the smallest clue hoe many super users a normal phone has ? (Consider starting with SELinux, Knox, GServices)

PeterThePanda, 22 Feb 2025Lol. The S25 series (a.k.a S22 Gen 3) is not even a competi... moreIt's simply not true that this phone "destroys" the S25.
Aside from maybe the camera sensor, this phone doesn't actually have better specs than the S25. And even with cameras, raw specs aren't everything. Computational photography plays a huge role, and Samsung excels in this area. Remember MKBHD's 2024 blind smartphone camera test? The S23 (same camera as S25) came in fifth, beating out Apple, Oppo, and Xiaomi. And S25 has better photography processing thanks to newer snapdragon.
The camera isn't the only thing that matters. You interact with a phone's size, thickness, and weight constantly. The S25 is smaller, lighter, and potentially just as thin. That makes a huge difference in everyday use.
This Oppo phone still uses an older slower optical fingerprint scanner and might even have USB 2.0. Those are significant drawbacks.
Also Samsung offers a whopping 7 years of software updates. Chinese phones typically offer 4 years if your are lucky. That's a major advantage for long-term use.
So, no, the S25 is far from "destroyed." It offers a compelling combination of features, performance, ecosystem, deals and software support, especially for those who value a compact and lightweight design.
