Imo, the most significant innovations in terms of smartphones this year will come from Vivo and Huawei. End of comment :)

Availability and the China OS are huge minusses and the rendering of Vivo is again oversaturated with strange contrasts that totally defeat the only plus of this phone ; tack sharp photo's.

Contrary to the popular opinion, I like this approach by Vivo, which is trying to do something different with the focal length configurations. We have dozens of great camera options for 23-25mm focal length equivalent, but this would be a great option for those whose preferred focal length equivalent is 35mm or 50mm.

As far as using a 1-inch sensor goes, it would have been practically impossible to use it for 35mm. The physical focal length for Vivo X100 ultra (1/0.98" 23mm) is 8.67 mm. At 35mm, with the same 1-inch sensor, the required focal length would be over 13mm, resulting into a humongous camera bump. With 1/1.28" sensor itself, the physical focal length would be ~10mm, which is already stretching the limits.

How many of you make use of the ultrawide shots on your phone? I rarely use it. The question is, is it worth sacrificing a one inch sensor for it??

LYT-818 sensor is cheaper and smaller than the LYT-900, that is the reason they can put two in this phone and make it thin.

Honestly this is better than 1 incher that turns your phone into a giant Oreo. At least the processing will be similar across the board. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is probably the best Ultra hardware at the moment. Beating everybody else and it's international too.

Nick Tegrataker, 26 Feb 2025DOL-HDR reads out the second exposure immediately after the... moreAnd sony actually isn't first with dcg either, there were ov48c and hm3 with it respectively.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2025What vivo is basically doing is saying 200 ultra can do bet... moreDOL-HDR reads out the second exposure immediately after the readout of the first exposure has been initiated, instead of waiting for it to finish. DSG stands for Dual Slope Gain, and it seems to be essentially the same technology as Dual Analog Gain which reads out a single exposure in two different analogue gain settings (This is not the same as Dual Conversion Gain, which requires two separate ADCs).

The former is multi-frame HDR which aims to reduce (but not completely eliminate) motion artifacts, while the latter is a single-frame HDR which introduces no artifacts. Samsung did the latter first with Isocell HP2 and JN5, not Sony.

they keep talking about those video improvements with the 818 and the new focal lengths ... so not sure what to make of it... Unless they are capping and trying to justify the smaller sensor choice.

I can be wrong but I still think that the X100 U might be supreme - especially in photography and detail

                              Eno2, 26 Feb 2025No 1" sensor = NO buy!Happy waiting! ☺️☺️☺️

Aierlan, 26 Feb 2025Well if the OPPO is better at 3x and 6x that's a prett... morei dont want to argue over such minute stuff, it's clear we both have very different ideas/use cases for the zoom.

At the end of the day both are great and i'll summarize what i think by saying that being the zoom king doesn't mean being the best at a particular focal length but over a wide range and the xiaomi's equipped for that.

damn I was gonna buy this, but why would I buy less than 1 inc sensor, whats the point of improvements if it's as good as 1 inc, I want something better than what I already have (ahhah reading this again is funny, I'm talking about the cameras :D)

Xiaomi 15 ultra it is in this case...

Every brand is going ultra stingy, such a shame

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2025What vivo is basically doing is saying 200 ultra can do bet... moreFirstly dsg is different thing than what was suppossed to be written and has been only on samsung sensors, secondly sony actually was late on implementing it and lastly and most importantly IT DOESN'T HAPPEN LIKE YOU THINK IT DOES, you are alone in thinking this.
