Another new gimmick to make things "interesting" for the customer and make them buy stuff that's otherwise redundant.

Why can't we go back to those cool phones from the past with keypads and sliders and smaller screens? I'm sure more people would like to see such phones again than a few millimetres of reduced thickness.

You are literally leaving much much less space for the hardware to fit. From a certain point, it's simply not possible to fit so much hardware in an extremely thin device. What's so damn hard to understand? Y'all need it to be drawn for you or what? I'm not necessarily against thinner phones, but it's just that currently, there's simply more downsides than upsides.

-> New silicon batteries will pack more power into smaller spaces.
                                      "Less space for cooling?"
-> We don't need huge coolers. Processors are getting way more efficient. We have way too much power already. Focus on efficiency.
                                      "Thinner phones break easier?"
-> Use stronger materials like titanium.
                                      "Less space for everything else?"
-> That's what innovation is for. Make the parts smaller and better. We've been doing that for years with computers, we can do it with phones too.

And thinner and lighter more phone means :
                                      - Easier to carry and less bulky.
                                      - Comfortable to hold
                                      - Feels more premium
                                      - Less noticeable and discrete
                                      And among other things...
