Geoa, 02 Mar 2025The xp pro is out and has no thermal cameraEdit, I now have just seen xp pro thermal, is different phone than xp pro, thermal is good if you need it for work but I've had a cat 60 & 61 and flir is cool to play with now and then but I rarely ever really used it, this new sonim would be way better if it was thicker with a larger removable battery, including this and the last five phones they made all just 5000mAh? 5g bigger screen & now flir 5000 isn't enough and last 3 are non removable so wtf sonim? Stop building rugged phones for people who want a samsung or iphone, build a better rugged phone for people who need an actual rugged phone, Id rather spend less on a new rugged china phone like ulefone or oukitel, shure they dont do updates but they're tough and look tough and are cheap enough to just get a newer model every couple years,

You can unlock Samsung's bootloader though. The problem is, their Xcover's hardware is simply too weak when compared to those Blackview and Cubot's hardware. But again those phones' software update commitment is also pretty short.
In the end, there's no "best" rugged phone. You are asked to choose between reliable software or reliable hardware.

If you mean the Xcover 7, then yeah. Sure it comes with better software support, But again, he mentioned about teardrop camera and that phone has it. And oh yeah, that phone's processor also isn't better than 7 Gen 3 on this Sonim.
In the end, I just want to disagree to this argument that thinks this phone is "not good" on this pricing. Sure it's not the best, but it's also not the worse.

Just as example even tough the phone is a bit bigger but have better 120hz screen over 90hz
120W fast charger over who knows what that will have considering it only also have 5000mAh battery so maybe something 33W
D8020 is around same or a bit better then SD 7 gen 3
And never mind that most brands now have locked bootload so you can't install your preferred OS on the phones even when you have SD chip on the phone
Cubot KingKong X Pro also probably better and cheaper too
There are more, i just dont have time to waste on looking for them

So there are high chances that they've outsourced their lineup to Longcheer, as the same was done for Pixel devices as well.

Have a link in the article for the phone specs and if you scroll down it shows price for 530 Euro. Also 2024 November release with Android 14 and gets only 2 OS updates so actually get only 1 cause coming out while the A15 is out is already a joke.
Never mind the size of this thing. 171mm tall with 6.58 inch screen that have bezels from 2019 phones with the teardrop selfie camera. SD 7 Gen 3 is a decent chip but with rest of the specs on the phone that is Google Pixel copy i wont even look at it when it cost more then 300 Euro. Never mind that it would not even be in my list of interesting phones to get for up to 300 euro.

Much more minimalistic than 99% of rugged phones. Good job, now please add a punch hole on the front to complete the look
