OnePlus clears things up: OnePlus 13 and 13R are getting 4 OS updates as promised

There was some confusion earlier today about whether the out-of-the-box software counts as an update - it doesn't.

You are free to buy whatever you want. In principle, the seller is obliged to give you a guarantee according to the laws of your country. After it expires, you are on your own. This is the case for all electronics. Apparently Vivo has opened licensed service centers in France for post-warranty support, so if you like the phone you wrote in your comment - great. Enjoy it.

    I think 4 major android updates and 6 years of security update is good enough.

    I hope with low and mid range phones from all brands would get at least security updates for 5+ years.

    But with oems like Sony and Asus which give measly 2 android updates and 3-4 years of security updates for their flagship phones i am not holding my breath, though sales of those oems are bad because this update situation.

    Personally i change my phone every 1-3 years and i hope when i sell my old phone it would have still decent resale value and security updates are big part of that.

However, OnePlus has hastily left this market in 2023 (probably for legal reasons). At this point, I could buy a Vivo X200 Pro mini as an import - an excellent phone - and it would be much the same thing.

Most of the time, new versions of Android don't add anything (except seamless updates), everything is already available in OneUI. On the other hand, what I'm saying in a personal capacity is that this OnePlus is super-expensive and that by 2023 the brand has closed all its stores in France. They seem to have reopened a pop-up store in Paris, but this presence is evanescent. After-sales service is important at this level of expenditure.

              Since the western market is now also able to get hand of oppo products then its possible for them to just merge it.

              Oppo has released the fx8 pro and the fn5, and while oppo is a asian market brand here they never released any of those (at least here in the philippines).

                Galaxy A16 will "instantly" died at 3rd OS upgrade, even its not yet to 6 years prior OS upgrade. because you don't know how last Dimensity 6300 is

                Flagship was designed for 5 - 7 OS upgrades from this year due to powerful SoC.

                    Well, good thing at least they have an official statement.
                    Although 6 years of security patches is good, 4 OS upgrades for a $1000 flagship is not good optics, especially when the competitors are doing more than that nowadays.

                    Again, these Chinese OEMs just don't seem to get it. They're already selling 3rd rate components at premium price, but they're still cutting corners on software. I'd rather see OnePlus giving at least 5 years of OS upgrades than them sponsoring Youtubers to go on a cruise.

I had the oneplus 9pro for a whole year as my main phone, android 14 and the phone was going like a bullet. Now I have the galaxy s23 ultra and in terms of performance and speed I don't see any difference in comparison... and it receives patches every 2 months
