Sony needs that pressure from the competition to get back on track, and it will benefit all of us to have more competition (lower prices of sensors, better quality sensors, new technology introduced faster, etc.)

Darth Caesium, 07 Mar 2025Realme really is a joke I once made the huge mistake and bought a realme phone.
Never again will I buy realme.
Specs look good on paper but that's it.
Realme will never be as good as xiaomi.
Mark these words of wisdom.

To be fair, if I was an OEM, I would choose the JN5 over the OV50M any time, because it is a better and cheaper sensor. The JN5 is in so many devices already that Samsung probably has the economies of scale advantage, so in a competitive market like this (the smartphone sensor market has lately gotten much more competitive), Samsung is then incentivised to lower their prices for the JN5.

vik457, 07 Mar 2025What's happening with sony, are they sandbagging and b... moreI honestly have no idea what they're trying to do. The LYT-600 is an awful sensor that gets outdone badly by much smaller sensors, they're still not doing any 1/1.3"-type sensors apart from a custom sensor for Vivo (best sensor they've done ever, but still), and they still have no successor to the IMX858. The LYT-500 was always a bad sensor to begin with, but it's literally a paper launch when you can't find it in any phone at all.
