Samsung promises the Galaxy S25 Edge won't be fragile despite its thinness

It definitely hints at ceramic without confirming anything.

So, what will happen if I drop it from just a meter high? Samsung needs to show us that ad.

That's exactly what they haven't done.

I'm a long time Samsung user. The lack of innovation in the last 5 years has really put me off the brand. Just got my first Xiaomi (15) and I'm loving it. This S25 Edge seems like it could be something new and may be exciting. But I just can't care after years of nothing coming out of old Sammy boy.

If you only care about battery size, buy a power bank and superglue that to the back of your phone, there I saved you thousands of dollars in phones you would have bought over the next few years because you only care about battery. You‘re welcome

And a car certainly has to be able to take more abuse than a phone. So that should show you how a 5mm phone is definitely not a problem if done right.

People here will immediately assume a thin phone will bend easily. But that is more dependent on the engineering and the construction than the thickness. People will point at the iPhone 6 Plus (7.1mm btw) but they were probably not even around when that happened because then they would know that the even thinner Galaxy S6 (6.8mm) did survive the bend test. Meanwhile, the HTC One M9 (9.6mm) did snap in half because of the internal construction. More extreme example: the Moto Z (5.2mm) did survive, although it did bend somewhat, it remained functional and performed better than the much thicker iPhone 6 Plus and HTC One M9. Latest example: The new iPad Pro with OLED Display is thinner than its predecessor, yet fared better in the bend test because of a new metal sheet on the inside.

Summary: If the phone is well engineered, bending is not a problem no matter the thickness.

The S25 Edge is a thin phone, but it's not exactly breaking any records here. There are lots of other similarly thin phones (e.g. Galaxy S6, Galaxy A8 (2015), Galaxy A7 (2015), Mi 11 Lite, Moto Z, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play, Moto Edge 30...etc.) so precedent already exists. This phone's structure will be fine.

DarlingYext, 07 Mar 2025Samsung's promises mean absolutely nothing.Really? Don't you think that that's a blanket statement? I mean, they've actually delivered on their promises about updates. Maybe, you meant a particular sort of promise.

Simple, don't make it TOO THIN.

We want a narrower smartphone, not a paperweight.

I would recommend do not beLIEve them

I have already said this a few times before, but a center spine/cowling inside of the phone can improve durability a fair amount. Apple used it in their current iPad Pro and it held up well horizontally, though not vertically. Given you can't really fold a phone vertically, it should work well for a thin phone.

The problem is, I don't know if Samsung has picked up on the spine idea from Apple. If they haven't, that means their promises of durability are mostly empty unless they have somehow figured out another way to add durability (which I doubt).
