Here's how thick the iPhone 17 Air's camera bump is rumored to be

12 March 2025
We already knew the thickness without the camera island, now we have the full picture.

They're so desperate (apple and samsung in particular) and don't know what to do to sell new phone cos in recent years, there is almost no difference from each other, only on paper you see the processor. Even they look the same so they don't know what to do anymore and now they go for thickness and no one ask for that. Only difference between new model and last year model is "AI".

one camera is fine if they use a big 1" sensor and start the focal length at 24mm.

In fact, they can raise the price a little given the premium stuffs they are offering now.
Entry 128gb shld be 1.3k USD, follow by every 250usd increase for each tier up.

When I bought my last phone it was S23. The next can be a Oneplus 6.3" phone, if it has decent specs, is compact enough to easily use with one hand and is the cheapest one in the market fulfilling above mentioned requirements.
And I have seen most people have these simple criteria, unless they have crawled too deep into an ecosystem, they don't care about the brand.

jiyen235, 13 Mar 2025i think the best way to describe the issue is that everyone... moreBecause most of them are expensive? Give us affordable compact midrange, many people will buy them.

jiyen235, 13 Mar 2025have you considered the fact that the iPhone and Samsung Pl... moreThese are the best comparison to make as their difference is mostly only the screen size and maybe battery size too. It's not like the base iPhone and S class are cheap in the first place.

Samsung have only S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra while iPhone have 4 models as 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Well 5 models now as with the 16e added to it.

16 Pro also now 0.2 inch bigger screen while 15 Pro was same size screen with the standard 15

Can't compare with other brands as they are in limited markets and other things. Samsung and Apple is in most markets in the world over other brands.

And we cant compare by price and go with something like A56 with lower price and then sold numbers to compare. The larger screens are useless cause of larger price while not enoug more features. The price is a problem indeed but if it comes to flagship and fanboys then they dont care for the price

DaFink, 13 Mar 2025Not entirely sure what category of customer this thing is g... moreThis is the exact thing that I fail to understand. Who asked for thinner phones, specifically if it's only 2 or 3mm thinner?!

There are definitely more people out there asking for smaller phones, headphone jacks, and expandable storage but apparently that's not profitable! Let's see how this actually goes..

pl2rts, 13 Mar 2025Just compare the sold models of Samsung S class vs S Plus. ... morehave you considered the fact that the iPhone and Samsung Plus absolutely suck for the price? The only reason people put up with the base iPhone/Samsung is cus of the low base price and also the fact that compact phones just generally have worse hardware. Upping the size and the price without better hardware = low sales. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to get that.

Are you this dense? Or are you intentionally trying to alter the narrative? Why don't you compare what actually matters, the Pro/Pro Max phones? Look at their sales numbers. Brands are always going to continue doing what gives them the most amount of money with the least cost and Pro Maxes/Ultras dominate the list despite not really costing that much more to make. Use your brain, if you have it.

Not entirely sure what category of customer this thing is going to be aimed at. Rumour is it is going to be at the higher end of iPhone cost range, I just can't remember anyone actually saying 'You know what I want, a thinner more expensive iPhone with fewer features' 🤷‍♂️

Even the 16E can at least make the claim that it sits at the bottom of the range in terms of cost when people note the reduce feature set. This just has that it is thinner going for it, when did that become such a draw????? 🤷‍♂️

jiyen235, 13 Mar 2025i think the best way to describe the issue is that everyone... moreJust compare the sold models of Samsung S class vs S Plus. Same with iPhone and iPhone Plus. Both are same as one is small 6.1-6.2 inch screen and the Plus is 6.7 inch screen and on both brands the standard version sells more so that should already say that people want small phones and also buy small phones

I want it to be released so I can test the following at an Apple Store:

The camera wobble of the iPhone 17 Air, when it is placed flat on a table.

How 'top heavy' the phone will be when holding it. This is a weight distribution, weight balance matter. A 'top heavy' tennis racquet feels different from one with a more balanced weight..

The iPhone 16e is really a trial or beta test for the iPhone 17 Air: the single camera setup, the C1 modem.

Apple just want to reduce the battery size. This is the reason they are discontinuing plus model.

I have no faith in these design rumors.. but if they are true man.. wtf. I skipped the 16 because of the dumb camera button and the 17 is looking to be an even worse design. DO NOT MAKE ME BECOME A GREEN BUBBLE APPLE!

"So with the camera bump, the iPhone 17 Air will be 9.5mm thick, and without the hump, it will be 5.5mm."

And that's that, the thinness is completely pointless when the phone has a huge camera bump making it thick.
