Duke Nukem, 15 Mar 2025its going to be hot garbage if it doesn't run Xbox OS ... moreIf it uses the Z2 Go, it will be worse than the Asus ROG Ally X. The Z2 Go is less powerful than the Z1 Extreme.

xPandamon, 15 Mar 2025Depends on what you want to do. You can get higher performa... moreNot necessarily. A custom APU/SoC can be made to be efficient. The APU of the Steam Deck OLED is quite efficient. However, the Steam Deck is a massive failure financially, even though Valve will never admit it because doing that won't help the situation. Obviously, Valve won't say that the Steam Deck is a failure and beg people to buy it. AMD isn't stupid, though. AMD probably won't make a new custom APU for handheld PCs anytime soon. It's clear that the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go isn't good for handheld PCs at all.

its going to be hot garbage if it doesn't run Xbox OS and all Xbox games. As of now the current news is it will just run Windows and a Xbox launcher and come with a Game Pass subscription and only play Xbox games which are on PC.
In other words its just a ROG ALLY X with a Xbox skin.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2025What's the point when so many already exist? If anyth... moreNow Microsoft is just a third-party developer with its own consoles.

Kangal, 14 Mar 2025Honestly, what MS should have done was back in Q3-2020, the... moreNow, let's talk Home Consoles, but this time we'll go backwards.
The XB6 should arrive in Q4-2028. It'll be using a 2nm node, AM6 Platform, Zen6 but in a 1+7 layout, and the latest RDNA-5 graphics, all sharing a decent 64GB memory, with a small 1TB storage. It also comes with a minimum graphical assurance, basically it is MS telling developers the lowest is 1440p and 40fps. That would enable some gorgeous "cinematic games" at Ultra Settings, while most other titles would be aiming for locked-60fps or stable-120fps performance, all at a decent 2160p resolution.
Working back to the current-gen console. If I may add they could have delayed the XSX by a year. And the only changes I would make is to up the memory to 32GB s-RAM, and update the CPU from the slower Zen2 to the faster Zen3. Keep the same "slow" nVme, but make it upgradeable like Sony. Now we have a kickaz next-gen console (call it the Xbox V) and the release is not affected due to pand emic. Lifecycle is from 2021-2027, with the XB6 releasing in 2028.
Now it gets tricky. I think the XB1X is okay but a console with such performance really needed to be released around 2015. It's specs are fine, if any changes, wished it would have a 128GB SSD for OS and Game Engine, so they run more smoothly, pulling Game Assets (like textures) out of the slower 2TB HDD. Also would have preferred it had a 4c/8t Zen1 processor instead of the 8c/8t slow Intel Atom/AMD Piledriver processor.
Further back, the XB1 was good, it was just horribly timed. If we kept it's performance, maybe even downgraded it to 4GB s-RAM, 1TB HDD, same slow processor and graphics. All of this, but we instead released it in 2010. That way we can finally retire the Xbox 360. Oh, and no always-connected feature or Kinect. But we keep the TV-in feature hub.
Now, if we really want to disrupt the timeline we can even improve the Xbox 360. We just skip the cheap IBM processor, and go with an affordable AMD processor. We also give it a healthy 1GB s-RAM and a 128GB HDD. We can do this, because in this timeline AMD did not go bankrupt and market competition was much healthier.
Now, that all started with the Xbox. The original console was a cheap AMD/ATi box that was still ahead of the PS2, GameCube, and even Wii for performance. But Bill Gates decided to go with an expensive Intel/Nvidia system, as it did improve performance by +40% at a cost expense of +60% and giving lots of revenue to the market leaders. Had MS gone with the underdog AMD it would have kept their revenue healthy, and allow them more R&D for the market. That also means MS can stick on the x86 plaform, and not have to shift to IBM.

Hmm, 14 Mar 2025Yeah not sure what's the point of this. This will not ... moreHonestly, what MS should have done was back in Q3-2020, they should have NOT released the XSS and instead released the Logitech G-Cloud. Obviously, it would be a midrange Android Tablet, as a midsized handheld, with the Xbox styling and User Interface, and affordable price.
Specifically, we're talking a 7.0 inch, 1080p, IPS, running Android v10, on QSD 768G, with 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage (no microSD), but with Stereo Speakers, Headphone Jack, USB-C TV-Out. Let's call it the Xbox Cloud-Go. All of that for USD $300, and 1-month of xCloud included. With licensed Xbox Accessories to come later, like Hand Grip, Kickstand, TV Dock, etc etc.
There is a successor to the Cloud-Go and we'll release it in Q4-2024 and call it the Xbox One-Go. This time it's an advanced AMD Handheld, and it is much larger like the Logitech/SteamDeck. It is pricier, and it runs Xbox One games natively. Also does backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 and Xbox. It is also a new SKU, so AAA-Developers can target it for their games. It is fast enough to run Xbox V games but at a much lower fidelity. For instance, if the XBV is doing "action games" at 2160p/120fps/Medium Settings this thing is only doing 1080p/60fps/Low Settings. If the XBV is doing "cinematic games" at 1200p/30fps/Ultra Settings, this thing is only doing 600p/24fps/High Settings. It achieves this by having the same 32GB s-RAM, internal 512GB storage, 8-core processor, and 16CU integrated graphics, but with new CPU and GPU architecture, built on a 4nm lithography. The ports of next-gen titles comes slow, but in the early days it handles all the back catalogue nicely. It is a bit of a reach at USD $500 price, but the features justify it.
A further successor could arrive, let's call it the Xbox Go-6. This time in Late-2028 as a concurrent release with the XB6. Again sharing the same system, but scaled down. And a pretty decent leap ahead in terms of performance, to ensure it lasts it's lifecycle and ages gracefully. The next-gen handheld would also have a variant which has a SIM Slot, so remote data (even Calls/Messaging!) can be done for Cloud Streaming or Game Updating/Downloading. But the majority would use the Standard Edition and rely on Wifi, since this oversized handheld is primarily an indoors device. Yet, MS is still supporting the original Xbox Cloud-Go at this time, for people on a budget.

Yeah not sure what's the point of this. This will not run native Xbox code. For example you won't be able to natively play Halo 5 on this. This is just a handheld PC with Windows Xbox app that probably launches by default and (possibly) Xbox sticker on the back.
