Apple is ... moreQualcomm has had a de facto monopoly on the US modem for decades now, first due to the CDMA patents, now due to MMWave patents. Even if you want to use someone else's modem (like Google using Samsung's for example), the patent licensing fees are expensive. And frankly, Qualcomm just makes a better product, not just in the modem, but the transceivers as well.

Would like to get IP 15 but now the 18th rumour already in the news.

        Bye bye Qualcomm.

Apple is already making US version of iPhones special, with mmWane antenna and no SIM slot. Apple can simply use Qualcomm modem just for the US version if they wanted to, and put their own modem for the rest of the world who don't use mmWave anyway.

" The baseline iPhone 18 may get the current C1 chip, or it may stick with a Qualcomm modem."

Unless Apple released the mmWave 5G-support revision edition of the current C1 modem for the baseline iPhone 18 series, that would be definitely a downgrade considering vanilla iPhone 16 series has mmWave 5G support AFAIK.

Funny how tech media avoids saying poor endurance of 16e may be the in-house modem. And even blames screen for bad numbers

And how is that special or something ? First generation modem have issues so how competent are they that the second generation work out the bugs of the first gen?

Watch there still be a price increase
