So I got an email, took an action in advance to keep my data even though I had until June to do it and still got my stuff deleted?
The timeline email from google in January 2025:
To keep your visits and routes saved, choose your preferred settings on your phone until June 9, 2025. You may need to update Google Maps first. Learn how to keep your Timeline data.
After that, you will only be able to use Timeline in the app.
If you do nothing, you may lose data. Google will attempt to transfer up to 90 days of Timeline data to the first connected device you use after June 9, 2025. Older data will be deleted. Timeline will remain enabled on your account, and your devices will continue to save new visits. Visits and routes older than 3 months will be automatically deleted.

EuropeGo, 26 Mar 2025Awww, come on.
This happened BECAUSE Google stopped putti... moreAgreed, but some users never had a chance to transfer their data offline, is this fair?
About an year ago, Google decided to resize all online photos to 3 megapixels, if they're bigger.
Going offline is a step in the right direction, but this seems more like a memory crunch than a genuine 'power to the consumer' move.
In short, cloud is like never reliable. It's like peekaboo, now you see me, now you don't!
I'd infact say that a new transferable memory based on UFS 4.1 or so, all backup will move with you. That will solve everything.

They understand the frustration, but no acknowledging of making an actual mistake, no sorry, no anything. They get be a bit more down to earth and recon they just made a mistake.

Had to go check my timeline just to see if I was hit. Thankfully I wasn't the unlucky few.
You guys have no idea how important timeline is to me. I don't keep a diary or journal, at least not a detailed one. So if I go vacationing in another country, I'm counting on Google maps to record all the details down of my whereabouts. If I lose my timeline, I lose a decades worth of travelling records of various places around the world.

Sam N8 808 owner, 26 Mar 2025Where is the "we don't need memory card slot, we ... moreAwww, come on.
This happened BECAUSE Google stopped putting those data in the cloud and use people's devices to store the timeline.
They should have never done this. This is so important, and now people will take care of their data themselves. What could possibly go wrong?
Ask normal people about backup...yeah. What?

Where is the "we don't need memory card slot, we got cloud" crowd now?
You don't own the cloud. It owns your data.

I've lost 6+ years all of my travel history at once and thanks to worlds number one tech giant called Google. And I haven't got the mail either. I've got angry when I discovered that I've lost the data atleast they should inform the user that they are doing that and telling users to get backup it's a bare minimum, when they consider user point of view they would have done this they are number one why would they think. I used to check timeline whenever I went to same place for suggestions and I even marked my favourite places all gone for no reason.

[deleted post]nah. It was a freakin Karen who claimed I never visited his office for an electrical installation and was b**ching with my boss showing false proof that I never went there and demanding him to fire me. Thanks to the timeline history I showed him and the fact the girl at the front desk recognized me he believed me and just ignored the Karen man.
