We'll just have to see iPhone 17 Series. Will similar case happen again? If so, will it only happen in Indonesia, or will it happen globally? Remember reciprocal tariffs which was just inaugurated by the president Trump a few days ago

    It's around Xiaomi's birthday, their POCO F7 would wreck their sales in Indonesia.

        none of those smartphone parts is available / manufactured in indonesia, from display, chips, caps, battery, down to screws, all is imported

        indonesia can make adapter charger yes, but those inside the adapter is still full of imported stuff, and apple dont include charger anymore, so the 40% is for cardboard-box + paper-guide

        its just same to rest smartphone company in indonesia, samsung/xiaomi/oppo/vivo etc.
        either apple making assembly(aka packing) company or probably opening apple store

        it wont make big different from apple sides, only cost them some taxes, as before they dont pay any taxes for their products, consumer the one paid the import tax

        if there anything good from this, hopefully iphone user in indonesia can get quick fix for their iphone, rather than waiting like few weeks for fix (because indonesian-distributor need to ship the iphones under warranty back to apple singapore for fix)

There's the manufacturing path, and there's the investment part. Apple has been using the later, not the former.

                The fact that Apple decided to go round and round through some investment BS to get the iPhone 16 un-banned instead of simply entering the market fully speaks for itself. Apple doesn't want to enter Indonesia. Risk and cost are too high.

                  Based on Macrumors reporting, iPhone 16 lineup release in Indonesia are still imported, not contains TKDN at all. So probably must be Apple lobbying team...ahem...aka..bribery pro effort finally pay off.

                  (TKDN = 40％ locally sourced component requirement)

                                I hope Apple opens Apple Store in Indonesia. The service provided by Apple resellers here is not as good as Samsung's service in Indonesia.

                                  Do Airtags even work in that country? They don't even allow ultra wideband.
