That is such a weird decision that I'm having trouble finding this real. What a strange decision. I would never set it as default. What is going on with these crazy companies all owned by the same group of elite (or funded by them).

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2025Ever heard of WiFi?No Wi-Fi because last year they tripled the prices. I asked them: What is it are you selling actually? How much are you buying it for and why are you tripling the price now? They were still talking about discount. I said: "I don't want it!"

JapanAi, 29 Mar 2025Well, I care about Japan. And nobody is using it here. Line... morenever heard of it before. just checked it. Japanese giant Softbank owns half of it and headquarters is located on Tokyo. that might explain the local popularity.

yalim, 28 Mar 2025you like it or not whatsapp is by far the most popular mess... moreWell, I care about Japan. And nobody is using it here. Line Messenger for 94% of the popularity (97% of smartphone users) uses Line.
Even emergency and official announcements are made with Line. I believe they have services here that are not available outside Japan, too.
What's WhatsApp? Ah, it's in the name... www

yalim, 28 Mar 2025you like it or not whatsapp is by far the most popular mess... moreIn india WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app just like in many other countries. But for phone calls people use truecaller for phone id or default phone app. My point is whatsapp can be the most popular messaging app but people can still use other apps for calling.

I absolutely hate WhatsApp on iPhone. For some functions and actions, you have to take multiple steps which on android is only one single step. On the other hand where there are multiple steps for some functions on android they've implemented single step on iPhone's WhatsApp. Really annoying. And now they're giving us opportunity to set this worse app as default. No way

paradized, 28 Mar 2025Who even is still using the offline messaging and calling?I am paying 10 bucks a month and they are giving me 10GB internet, 1000 minutes of calls and 250 SMSs. I don't know what you mean offline but I never call anyone with WhatsApp or Telegram, especially video call...

AnonymousCRL, 28 Mar 2025I won't since offline calling wouldn't be possible. Voice calls are routed through 4G in large parts of the world already, and with the size of data plans these days the 20-30MB per hour data usage of WhatsApp calling isn't really a big problem. Also, I seriously doubt Apple would offer an option that prevents emergency calling, it'll most likely just fallback on the normal phone app when necessary.

you like it or not whatsapp is by far the most popular messaging app in the world so, it makes perfect sense to make it the default app in iphone, too. it is so popular because it is not platform dependent like imessage.
