What are your thoughts on the Nothing 3a for $A600? It's (unfortunately) a huge phone, but its main and selfie cameras are excellent, with natural looking colours. It seems like a good all-rounder, and it's $300 cheaper than the Reno13.

The Oppo has an 8MP ultrawide, no telephoto and an unimpressive main camera (hardware wise at least) so the Samsung would be a better choice camera wise, and they'll be updating the S24 for another 6 years, even if it will likely take them about 10 to implement those updates if OneUI 7 is anything to go by. The Moto would be worse in terms of cameras, but they seem to have invested quite a bit into their camera software in the past year or so.

Is your current phone the S21 Ultra?

The last version that I used on a daily basis was COS 11 which I had very mixed feelings about but I've spent a bit of time with 14 and I really liked it. It seemed polished and very smooth. However, I'd still prefer to have the S24 as it has a better ultrawide, a telephoto, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, AKG tuned speakers, a longer support window, etc etc.

$700 would be quite reasonable an RRP/MSRP, however I wouldn't buy one for a dime over $600, especially when the Edge 50 Pro is $500, with all that that phone offers.

I got my Pixel 8 on sale for $800 last year, so I wouldn't pay $900 for an upper midranger. That said, it seems like a nice phone. I imagine it won't be on sale for a long time though, and the Reno12/Pro still cost a pretty penny at JB and Officeworks.

Might as well get an S24 if you want a small phone at that price. You could get your hands on a 512GB model for similar money from Becextech.

Why would they use the 9000+? That's a very old processor. I reckon they'll use the 8400, 8500 (if it comes out by then), 9200 or Snap 7 gen 4.

some rumours in early January said they would be using the same d8350 soc as the reno 13 series

so if that turns out to be true what exactly they are gonna change on 14 series ?

                seems kinda pointless

Would the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 be unreasonable to expect?

Nine times of ten a main camera with the pixel bin turned off will take a photo as good if not better than a dedicated 2x. 2.5x makes some sense I suppose. Really depends on the sensor and aperture. A decent sensor and a wide aperture would make it very useful as a mid-range (up to about 7x) zoom and portrait camera.

Pumpino, 03 Apr 2025The Reno13 and 13 Pro only became available here in Austral... moreThe Reno 12 series was discounted by two hundred kangaroonies twice at JB. They made sense at those prices but quite frankly they should have retailed at those reduced prices, if not less. The Edge 50 Pro makes the Reno12 Pro irrelevant, and the Nothing Phone (2a) and Galaxy A55 make the Reno12 irrelevant. Same story with the Reno13 – extortionate prices. Standard fare for Oppo.

Let's hope the camera is bigger than the half-inch sensor it has been so far. Hoping for 1/1.56 to be on par with its neighbors. Not to mention the tiny 8MP ultrawide. Yeesh.

The Reno13 and 13 Pro only became available here in Australia a couple of weeks ago. They're very expensive. The prices of the 12 series are still high. It's a shame, as they'd be great all-rounders at a reasonable price.
