red, 03 Apr 2025dont get this news. my QN85B is couple years old and suppor... moreThe feature is not being added newly to devices themselves but specifically for the Netflix app. Netflix has always supported Dolby Vision but only HDR10 on Samsung TVs. So this is the next best alternative to adding DV to Samsung TVs.
You know the content is HDR10+ on a Samsung TV when filmmaker mode turns on.

I wonder how much Samsung paid Netflix to do this?

Another reason I stayed away from Samsung displays. That and they are badly built.

HDR standards are a mess. Dolby Vision is technically superior, but licensing is a mess, while HDR10+ is an open standard. However, most of Hollywood (including the streaming services) are happy to pay the Dolby blood money, while Samsung is the only major device manufacturer that refuses. While I applaud them for using open standards, I also recognize that they're probably going to capitulate to Dolby relatively soon.
